Short Answer: Yes, Celsius Energy is a vegan-friendly energy drink!

Celsius is quite a widely known energy drink in the US and there are good reasons for that.

There are six research studies that back up its benefits and these are available on their website for you to read. 

This thermogenic, sugar-free drink offers an extensive selection of great-tasting flavors and boasts a proprietary blend they call MetaPlus that features healthy, natural ingredients including green tea, ginger, and guarana.

Celsius drinks are also certified gluten-free, kosher, and non-GMO

This all sounds great on the surface, but is this drink truly suitable for you as a vegan?

So… Is Celsius Energy Drink Vegan?

Well, here’s the quick answer: Yes, Celsius energy drink is definitely vegan. 

In fact, Celsius carries the Certified Vegan logo from Vegan Action on its product label. 

What this certification means is that we can be certain that Celsius does not contain any meat or animal by-products. 

It also proves that there has been no animal testing done for Celsius and that there are no animal-derived or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or genes used for the ingredients.

So, go ahead. Get that Celsius drink you’ve been wanting to have because it won’t compromise your vegan diet in any way.

What Ingredients Will I Find In Celsius Energy Drink?

On the product website, these are the key attributes listed for Celsius energy drinks: 

  • No sugar
  • No high fructose corn syrup
  • No aspartame
  • No preservatives
  • No artificial colors or flavors
  • Very low sodium
  • Vitamin Infused
  • Kosher
  • Vegan
  • Gluten-free
  • Soy Free

With “vegan” specifically mentioned in this list, you can be 100% sure that Celsius complements your vegan diet perfectly.

Celsius would also be a suitable choice for you if you have to observe any of these other dietary restrictions.

As for the ingredients list, this is what you’ll find inside a 12 fl. oz (355ml) can of Celsius :

  • 2g carbohydrates
  • 200mg caffeine
  • 60mg of vitamin C
  • 1.7mg riboflavin (vitamin B2)
  • 20mg niacin (vitamin B3)
  • 10mg pantothenic acid (vitamin B5)
  • 2mg pyridoxine (vitamin B6)
  • 300mcg biotin (vitamin B7)
  • 6mcg cobalamin (vitamin B12)
  • 50mg calcium
  • 50mcg chromium
  • 0g sodium
  • MetaPlus proprietary blend
  • Carbonated filtered water
  • Citric acid
  • Fruit juice
  • Vegetable juice
  • Sucralose

It’s actually quite impressive that the manufacturer managed to pack so much into just one can of Celsius. 

Let’s take a quick look at some of the ingredients that I’ve highlighted from this list. 

What Is MetaPlus Proprietary Blend?

MetaPlus Proprietary Blend refers to a special blend of ingredients that includes:

  • Taurine
  • Guarana extract
  • Caffeine
  • Glucuronolactone
  • Ginger root extract
  • Green tea leaf extract

Caffeine Content

Celsius actually has 200mg of caffeine per 12 fl. oz (355ml) depending on the flavor.

That’s quite a lot in just one can.

Personally, I like to keep my caffeine consumption around 50mg to 100mg per serving. 

You’ll need to decide for yourself what works for you but do keep in mind that the product label does warn you not to exceed two cans of Celsius in a day.

You should also be careful not to exceed the maximum daily intake of 400mg of caffeine that’s advised by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Besides that, the product label also states that those who are caffeine-sensitive, pregnant or nursing, or below 18 years of age should not consume Celsius.

If these conditions apply to you, then you’ll need to steer clear of Celsius.

Caffeine can be useful when consumed moderately. It helps to boost your energy levels and enhances your concentration.

Many studies like this one have clearly proven that caffeine is especially effective in counteracting drowsiness.

However, when you take too much of it, caffeine may have bad repercussions on your health. For example, you might experience:

  • Anxiety
  • Agitation
  • Restlessness
  • Sleeping problems
  • Tremors

So remember to take the necessary precautions and always stay within your safe caffeine limits.

Sugar Content

If you’re keeping a close watch on your sugar intake, here’s the good news: Celsius energy drinks are completely sugar-free.

Due to the use of the artificial sweetener, sucralose, you will still be able to enjoy a sweet taste in your Celsius drink though.

Sucralose is supposedly 600 times sweeter than regular sugar and is often used as a sugar substitute in many of the processed foods we enjoy nowadays. 

You’ll be happy to know that it’s vegan-friendly since there isn’t any animal-sourced carbon used in its manufacturing process.

Does Celsius Energy Drink Work?

Yes, Celsius Energy Drink actually works.

However, I should mention that in my opinion there’s nothing special about Celsius compared to other energy drinks. I think Celsius gives you a good energy boost for the same reason that most energy drinks do – they contain caffeine, B vitamins, and other ingredients.

I felt a noticeable boost about 30 minutes after drinking Celsius and that seemed to last for about 90 minutes before I noticed my energy wasn’t as high anymore.

Actually, the boost was a bit much in my opinion. That’s probably down to Celsius containing 200mg of caffeine in a can.

I’m happy to report that I didn’t notice a sugar crash though.

Of course, I didn’t just drink Celsius alone throughout the day. I also drank lots of water too.

Overall, I would say that the Celsius energy drink works pretty well, but you’ll want to have a pretty high tolerance to caffeine, otherwise, it might knock your socks off.

Is Celsius Energy Drink Good For Health?

The answer to this question is pretty subjective, in my opinion. To say the least, Celsius doesn’t harm your health and it’s a great way to get an energy boost whenever you need it.

After all, it contains no sugar and no artificial preservatives or colors. There isn’t a trace of fructose or gluten anywhere to be found in the drink either.

However, as with all things, it needs to be consumed in moderation. If you drink too much, you might end up facing the consequences.

So I would say that even though Celsius can complement your health in some ways, you shouldn’t drink it as freely as you do with plain water. In fact, no energy drink should become a substitute for water in your diet.

Vegan Alternatives For Celsius Energy Drink

Homemade Energy Drink

Skip spending extra money on energy drinks and use ingredients you already have at home to whip up your own homemade energy drink instead. 

There are plenty of great recipes online that you can look up for ideas.

I personally like this Cocolina drink which only requires two ingredients:

  • coconut water
  • 1/2 tsp spirulina powder

All you have to do is mix the coconut water and spirulina into a sports bottle and shake it.

The good thing about making your own energy drinks is that you can be completely certain that they are vegan. You’ll also have full control over what goes into the drink so it’s made to suit your liking. 

Coffee

Another alternative you can go with is coffee, plain and simple. 

Ingredients-wise, it’s the most convenient and straightforward option since you don’t need much and it’s easily obtained.

Of course, you’d have to be careful about where you’re buying your coffee from as you’d want to be sure that it’s a vegan-friendly source. 

Since you are making the drink yourself, you have the liberty of deciding whether or not to add any milk or sugar (or any suitable substitutes, if your diet calls for that) to the mix too.
