Exploring the Truth Behind Celsius Energy Drink

Exploring the Truth Behind Celsius Energy Drink

I know a lot of brands out there claim that their products are healthy. But let’s get to the point: energy drinks are actually not healthy for you. However, it doesn’t have any terrible effects either for as long as you consume it in moderation.

Celsius, in particular, is a brand that has built an image that centers on its health benefits. And it’s easy to see why! After all, the energy drink has a ton of micronutrients, thermogenic properties, and minimal caffeine and sugar.

But as I said, I wouldn’t really call Celsius healthy, especially if this claim can lead consumers to let loose and consume too much.

In this article, I’ll be doing a deep dive on Celsius’ ingredients and see if it really is good for your health!

Let’s start exploring.

Celsius Ingredients

This energy drink has a Meta plus Proprietary Blend. A proprietary blend is a group of other ingredients used in any product in which the dosage isn’t disclosed.

You can find the following ingredients in a can of Celsius:

  • Taurine
  • Guarana extract
  • Glucuronolactone
  • Ginger root extract
  • Green tea leaf extract
  • Carbonated filtered water
  • Citric acid
  • Fruit juice
  • Vegetable juice
  • Sucralose
  • Natural flavor

I’m glad to see that many natural ingredients like ginger root, green tea, and fruit extracts had come to the Celsius ingredients list.

Moreover, it has Biotin, which benefits your hair and skin. It’s kind of unusual because this vitamin isn’t common in energy drinks. But, it’s actually a good thing because it’s beneficial to your skin and hair.

How Much Caffeine is in Celsius?

There is around 200mg of caffeine in a can of Celsius. As I’ve mentioned before, caffeine can help you work out effectively.

While it doesn’t directly give you energy, it can make your mind alert, encouraging you to finish your task.

Whether it’s physical or mental work, Celsius has got you covered. It can even boost your cognitive performance just like coffee but much more powerful. However, there’s only a limit to caffeine you should take per day.

Are Celsius Drinks Good for You?

According to its makers, Celsius is good for you. As for me, I think they emphasized more on the part where it can help you burn calories and bad fats.

This article claims that taking caffeine before exercise can increase your fat oxidation. And this works at any time of the day.

It can’t be denied that Celsius is suitable for activity because of its caffeine content. Plus, the micronutrients can enhance your mental performance too, so that all sounds good to me.

What are the Side Effects of Celsius Energy Drinks?

According to the FDA, you need to keep your caffeine consumption below 400mg per day. Following their instructions can help you avoid the side effects of caffeine overdose.

In case of a caffeine overdose, you may experience one or a combination of the following symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Fever
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Palpitations
  • Nervousness

In addition, it can also cause anxiety and insomnia. My advice is, don’t take it hours before you go to sleep because 200mg of caffeine can keep you up until the mornings.

Do You Drink Celsius Before or After a Workout?

It’s preferable to drink Celsius in the morning before any physical activity. While you can also make it as a replacement to your usual coffee, you shouldn’t make it as one, especially if you don’t have any physically demanding tasks.

This energy drink will reveal its boosting effects within 15-20 minutes of consuming it. Don’t expect that it’ll work instantly because it won’t.

However, for other individuals, the effects might be different. For example, if you have a high tolerance for caffeine, it could work much later

In case your tolerance is low, there’s a chance you’ll experience the effects sooner. Just be careful, though, as 200mg of caffeine might be enough for you to suffer from caffeine crashes.

Does Celsius Contain Any Added Sugar?

Celsius is sugar-free, and it uses an artificial sweetener called sucralose instead. This sucralose doesn’t add any additional calories to your diet.

Products use artificial sweeteners in replacement of natural sugar. As you may know, overconsuming sugar is also bad for your health. According to this article, you’re only allowed to take 30g of sugar per day.

While some advise that 40g of sugar is still okay, I don’t think you should consume so much sugar regularly. For me, the lesser, the better, and that’s the same with caffeine.

Aside from sugar crashes, products with artificial sweeteners can help your insulin resistance. This makes it an approved substance for people with diabetes. Moreover, using artificial sweeteners also prevents sudden headaches.

That could help a little in countering the headaches you might get from caffeine crashes. However, it isn’t a reason to drink more servings. Remember that artificial sweeteners are bad for long-term use as well.

Is Celsius Really Bad for Your Heart?

Energy drinks as a whole can be bad for your heart, so you should be wary. While Celsius has a lot of caffeine, it shouldn’t be terrible for your heart unless you have an underlying heart condition.

Limiting yourself to one serving of Celsius per day is also important to stay safe.

If you watch this video, you’ll find out it’s the same for most energy drinks.

The doctor says energy drinks are also bad for your kidney!

Energy drinks can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. So, stop consuming Celsius and start drinking water as soon as you experience these bad effects.

Also, consult a doctor if you experience any irregularities.

Is Celsius Healthier than Monster?

A single can of Monster Energy contains 160mg of caffeine, which is a bit lower than what Celsius has.

You’ll notice that Celsius has more nutrients than Monster on a quick look. Nevertheless, both of them are still unhealthy. Therefore, don’t think of relying solely on energy drinks for a boost.

It’s much better to rely on good sleep and follow a proper diet for energy. It doesn’t have to be a lot of sleeping hours. The quality of your sleep should be there.

Remember that the FDA didn’t really say that energy drinks are healthy. But to avoid any side effects and health problems, they made guidelines as to how much of the ingredients is still safe for you to take.

Which reminds me, Monster has 54g of sugar. This amount is definitely above the suggested sugar limit. If you think your body can’t take it, just stick to other sugar-free beverages.

Is Celsius Healthy to Drink Every day?

You’re allowed to take it every day. But I don’t think that’s healthy. Remember, these energy drinks have synthetic ingredients.

These ingredients are harmful to your body. You have to let your body rest from artificial ingredients sometimes. If you really can’t help taking energy drinks, at least have one can only every other day.

In my opinion, if you are going to drink it every day, you better keep it to one can a day only!

Energy Drink Alternatives to Celsius

Zipfizz

Zipfizz is a powdered energy drink with caffeine from guarana seed, only 100mg. Aside from that, it’s also rich in taurine and L-Arginine with only a few added calories.

Zipfizz doesn’t have any sugar content, just like Celsius. It utilizes substances like xylitol and sucralose for the sweet flavor of the beverage.

Ghost Gamer

One sachet of Ghost Gamer has 75mg of caffeine. This dosage might be little than Celsius has, but you can also add your dosage if you buy their tub version. You can use it as an effective pre-workout energy drink with two scoops of it.

This vegan energy drink is also packed with taurine, L-Tyrosine, and other nutrients. It’s indeed a good drink for physical and mental activities because it has these contents.

REIZE (The Best)

REIZE is my bet because of its sugar-free nature and only 50mg of caffeine. Plus, it would give you a compelling lift in energy without causing crashes.

I also like its gentle and more natural taste than any other energy drink. Moreover, I like how it’s free of sugar and has just enough caffeine for a solid energy boost without causing jitters.

The Final Say

Generally, Celsius has no sugar, which somehow makes it a little better than sugary energy drinks. It’s also beneficial to your workout goal, but that’s not enough to say it’s healthy.

Besides, it can still make your body suffer from side effects if you happen to consume much of it. But if you drink it every once in a while and drink it moderately, it should be fine for you!

That said, remember not to mix it with any alcohol to avoid more harmful effects on your health.
