But are energy drink mixes actually better?

Energy drink mix packets, or energy drink powders, are an alternative to canned energy drinks, which gives you the freedom and control to set how much energy drink mix formula goes into your drink.
Besides their flexibility, energy drink mix packets are most known for their portability, as you can carry multiple servings in your back pocket as long as you have the water to mix them with.
Generally, powdered energy drinks replicate the same experience as drinking canned energy drinks, offering the same benefits such as increased alertness and improved reaction times.
They’re also pretty simple to prepare. If you’ve had experience with any other powdered beverage, it’s the same concept. Basically, pour, and mix.
Just add the specified volume of powder and water, give it a mix it, and voila, a freshly made energy drink on demand.
Do Energy Drink Powders Work?
Energy drink powders work just as well as their canned counterparts, sometimes even better, as you can accurately measure the correct dosage that suits you.
The important ingredient that both powdered and canned energy drinks share is caffeine, which, apart from keeping you awake, also helps to improve your working memory and reaction time.
As long as you have the right dosage mixed in with an adequate amount of water, an energy drink packet will serve you just as well as an 8.4 fl.oz can of Red Bull.
Are Energy Drink Mix Packets Better?
From a health perspective, energy drink powders and packets are often better than regular energy drinks, as you can customize your own servings tailor-made to your personal tolerances.
Furthermore, powdered energy drinks are usually more affordable, as they take up less space with more effective servings, which can result in greater value per drink.
Most powdered energy drinks also often don’t contain sugar and are not excessively carbonated, meaning that they are generally better for your tummy.
Energy drink mix packets are also easier to carry around, so if you’re someone who prefers being subtle, energy drink mix packets might just be for you.
However, I should mention that even among different brands of powdered energy drinks there is significant variation when it comes to packaging.
Some brands have big tubs, that aren’t all that portable at all, which other brands offer very convenient, single serve sachets that you can easily rip open and use without having to worry about measuring a scoop out of a tub.
Personally, I prefer the sachets over the tubs.
Should You Buy Energy Drink Powder in Packets or Containers (Bulk)?
Whether you decide to purchase energy drink powder in packets or tubs with multiple servings is entirely up to your preference, each package method having its pros and cons.
Packets give you the perfect amount of powder per serving without you needing to fiddle with a scoop or measuring device. They’re also incredibly convenient to carry around, easily fitting into your back pocket.
If you prefer to mix non-standard amounts of powder into your drink, sachets are probably not as convenient for that as scooping out of a container.
They give you a lot more leeway when it comes to selecting your serving size. You can follow the recommended value, halve it, or double it, the choice is entirely up to you and what your exact needs are.
They’re also very convenient if you plan on having that particular brand of energy drink long-term given their large quantity as it can save you multiple trips to the store.
The downside of containers is that it’s not exactly easy to transport.
Also, there are some safety concerns around allowing people to mix their own powder into a drink and expecting them to get it right every time. There is some chance that a consumer may unknowingly create a dangerous cocktail by using far more than they should. In this regard, sachets are better because you know what you’re getting every time.
Should Gamers Drink Powdered Energy Drinks?
There has been an uptick in the marketing of energy drinks for gamers. Gamers tend to benefit quite a bit from energy drinks due to the increased awareness and reaction time that energy drinks offer.
As long as you live a healthy lifestyle, have a balanced diet, and are not constantly at the PC/Console 24/7, drinking powdered energy drinks as a gamer is perfectly fine.

What To Look For In Energy Drink Packets?
The selection process for the best energy drink powders and packets is the same as selecting any conventional energy drink. It all starts with checking the nutrition label to see the list of ingredients.
Here are some things for you to look out for:
The caffeine content in most energy drinks range from around 50 to 300mg, depending on the brand.
I personally prefer to have between 50 to 100mg of caffeine per serving, which is just enough for it to work, but not too much that I end up jittery and unable to concentrate.
Of course, everyone metabolizes caffeine at a different rate, so I would recommend that you find out what works best for you and adjust your servings accordingly.
Thankfully, energy drink packets generally don’t contain a lot of sugar but don’t be surprised if you find one that does include an ungodly amount of it.
Sugar, apart from being sweet, also activates the dopamine receptors in your brain, giving you a pleasurable feeling and improving your mood, all of which sounds pretty amazing.
Be warned though, there can be too much of a good thing, and the AHA recommends a daily sugar limit of 25g for women and 36g for men.
In the short-term, overconsumption of sugar may lead to a sugar crash, leaving you feeling tired and lethargic, which is not something you would want out of any energy drink you have.
There are also long-term health and dietary consequences of eating too much sugar, such as:
- Weight Gain
- Type II Diabetes
- Increased risk of heart disease
- Increased risk of depression
So be sure to check the amount of sugar per serving, and remember that you can always alter the recommended serving if it seems too much for your liking (again, that’s the beauty of mix packet energy drinks).
