Xyience Energy Drink: A Closer Look at Its Ingredients and Health Implications

Xyience Energy Drink: A Closer Look at Its Ingredients and Health Implications

In today’s fast-paced society, energy drinks are a popular choice for a quick pick-me-up. Xyience, on the other hand, is just one of numerous energy drinks available on the market today.

Although it’s not as healthy as water or any organic supplements,  Xyience accomplishes its job well considering the ingredients contained in its formulation.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the Xyience ingredient list and what it has to offer in this post. You’ll be amazed!

What is Xyience Energy Drink?

Xyience (pronounced like ‘science’ with a Z) is a carbonated energy drink that markets itself as having 0 calories and 0 sugar, and that “gives you the great energy you need without the calories you don’t”.

In addition to energy drinks, Xyience also makes a line of bodybuilding supplements, which can be found in gyms all over the USA.

One thing that I’ve noticed so far on my adventures in researching energy drinks is when they say 0 sugar, that usually means they’re making up for the sugar elsewhere in artificial simple sugars, which will rot your teeth a lot more easily than complex sugars of the kind found in fruits and food.

Watch out when they say natural flavors as well, because what’s really part of this? I don’t think ‘Frostberry’ is a real flavor.

Xyience is made in Austin, Texas, and is owned by the company Big Red Inc.

Fun Fact: The original owner was sentenced to four years in jail for tax evasion.

Xyience Energy Drink Nutrition Facts

It is not a significant source of calories from fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron.

Xyience also contains trace amounts of:

  • Carbonated water
  • Citric acid
  • Taurine
  • Natural flavors
  • Sodium Citrate
  • Caffeine
  • Glucuronolactone
  • Potassium sorbate (preservative)
  • Sodium benzoate (preservative)
  • Calcium D Pantothenate (Vitamin B5)
  • Ginseng root extract
  • Guarana seed extract
  • Sucralose
  • L-Carnitine
  • Gum Arabic
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
  • Inositol
  • Acesulfame potassium
  • Ester gum
  • Pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vitamin B6)
  • Cyanobalamin (Vitamin B12)

In a very sneaky move, they market their caffeine content as ’88mg/8oz.” I think is just unfair- anyone just casually browsing would look at that and think “Hey! That’s not that much caffeine!” but they might find out later that that’s only half of a can of Xyience, which is completely misleading the consumer.

Xyience Energy Drink Flavors

Xyience energy drink comes in 8 flavors:

  • Cherry Lime
  • Mango Guava
  • Frostberry Blast
  • Blue Pomegranate
  • Cran Razz
  • Fruit Punch
  • Tangerine
  • Melon Mayhem

I personally think that this is quite a nice spread of flavors- there’s a bit of everything for everyone, but I sure hope you like fruit flavors!

Xyience Energy Drink Caffeine Content

Xyience contains 176mg of caffeine / 16 fl. oz, which is comparable to other energy drinks such as Monster, which also contains 150mg of caffeine.

This is around half of the maximum daily recommended caffeine limit, so be careful not to overdose on caffeine by drinking too much!

The caffeine appears to come from synthesized caffeine and also natural caffeine from guarana seed extract. Both have the same chemical makeup, and there haven’t been any reported side effects from either.

Of course, watch out for your individual caffeine sensitivity, as a caffeine overdose can cause dehydration, jitters, and headaches.

Drinking 2 cans of Xyience will put you near the daily recommended maximum caffeine intake.

Is Xyience energy drink good for you?

In terms of boosting your energy levels, Xyience Energy is good for you.

Xyience Energy can help you with concentration and focus. In the sense that it will deliver an energy boost that is effective and will help you get the job done.

But is the Xyience energy drink healthy for you?

That’s another story.

Let’s go ahead and dissect some of the ingredients they put into it. They say that they have 0g of sugar in the drink and do not use aspartame. Xyience uses sucralose as a sweetener.

Sucralose has been found to cause definite changes in the liver of rats in science experiments, and it reduces good gut bacteria by 50%, causing possible digestion issues.

In addition to that, the two preservatives used, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, are also not particularly healthy for you, as they can cause migraines or even allergic reactions.

WATCH & LEARN: Are Energy Drinks Bad For You?

Is Xyience energy drink bad for you?

Xyience Energy is not bad for you if consumed in moderation.

A serving of Xyience Energy once in a while is not bad at all. It can certainly provide you with the boost that you need to get through the day.

Xyience is not any worse for you than any of the other energy drinks out there, since it contains run-of-the-mill ingredients, although this does not mean that it is good for you.

In fact, some of the common side effects of energy drinks are:

  • Caffeine overdose
  • Tooth decay
  • Obesity
  • Adverse neurological developments in children and adolescents

Therefore, you should consume energy drinks in moderation to avoid the side effects.

Does Xyience energy drink work?

Considering the combination of caffeine and taurine that is included in Xyience, it’s unlikely that Xyience does not work.

176mg of caffeine is a big kick, but caffeine boosts aren’t always effective for everyone, especially if you’re a regular consumer of caffeine.

Taurine is an amino acid that helps build protein and also contributes to the energy boost. Xyience is not very forthcoming about how much taurine is in their drink, so it’s doubtful that it’s in enough amounts to really make a difference.

Other ingredients that they’ve added are vitamins and ginseng root, but again, because the exact amounts aren’t specified, are they in significant enough amounts to help your diet and health?

We don’t know.

Xyience Energy Drink and Diets

Vegan

Xyience Energy is suitable for those on vegan diets. They do not contain any animal products and are more like vitamin supplements rather than anything else.

Of course, if you were on a vegan diet and really considering taking it, it might be worth looking at how the product is manufactured as well just to check that everything is fine.

Keto

Xyience contains 2g of carbohydrates, and this can contribute to the total carb count for those on the keto diet.

While some energy drinks contain 0g of carbohydrates, Xyience is probably not the best choice, since it also has artificial sugars.

The keto diet is supposed to be healthy and keep you in shape, but with the number of artificial sugars in Xyience, you’re at risk of not losing any weight.

How much does the Xyience energy drink cost?

A pack of 8 Xyience energy drinks that are each 16 fl. oz usually costs around $33.95, which means that a single can of Xyience costs around $4.25.

$4 is a pretty hefty price to drop on your customers, especially since I’m not really seeing anything that makes this drink stand out from the others.

Compared to more well-known and diverse flavored energy drinks like Monster, which only costs around $3, I honestly do not think that Xyience is worth it, and I’ll go into more detail in my review below.

If you’re looking for something a lot cheaper with a taste that is just as good, if not better, try REIZE, a powdered energy drink that ships directly to your door at under $1!

Xyience Energy Drink Review

* All opinions expressed in this review are mine *

Visuals

The drink itself is quite a pleasant change from most of the other drinks out there with spray-painted graffiti lettering or strong, block letters.

I liked the white packaging, and it gave me the feeling that it was about to be pretty refreshing.

One thing I was really unimpressed with was the fact that they emblazoned ‘Zero Calories’ and ‘Zero Sugar’ on the rim of the can because while they may have had zero calories, they definitely do have sugar-artificial sweeteners.

The sheer amount of white space could also be used to tell us more exact facts about ingredient amounts, and I’m still not clear where their ‘natural flavors’ are coming from.

Taste

The taste was pretty disappointing as well- I had the Frostberry flavor, so it was quite a mixture of berries. There was a really acidic taste at first, which was balanced out by surprise at how thick the drink was.

At least it didn’t seem like it had any colorings- the drink was a cloudy white, so I wasn’t too worried about the side effects and bad things about the colorings.

There was that really nasty aftertaste that comes with a sweetener that I suspect I am slowly becoming allergic to every time I drink something that contains sucralose, I get an uncomfortable bubbling in my stomach that I haven’t really experienced before.

Surprisingly, even though there was supposed to be quite a lot of sodium- 160mg, I didn’t think that it was particularly salty, but it’s probably a pretty good drink for replenishing electrolytes.

One thing I would have liked would be to compare some of the other flavors with each other, or even with the drinks in their body-building line, just to see if this taste and thickness is across the board or just in their energy drink line.

Effects

After taking the drink, I found that yes, there was a distinct energy boost that woke me up a little bit more, and this was probably thanks to the large amount of caffeine in the drink.

Even though the taste wasn’t as I expected, it definitely did the job- woke me up and let me continue on with my day. I didn’t feel the bad crash that usually comes with drinking energy drinks that contain a lot of sugar, so I think that’s definitely a positive.

Final Roundup – Xyience Energy Drink

Finally – do I think that the Xyience energy drink is worth it? Personally, I would give Xyience a 5/10.

I think that Xyience isn’t really anything special, it’s more or less your run-of-the-mill energy drink and doesn’t really stand out to me.

It may have the added bonus of having zero calories or zero sugar, but why and how is that different from a Low-Calorie Monster?

The price is also a huge turn-off. $4 for an energy drink is nothing to sniff at, and at this price, you can get far more effective drinks that are more efficient- or even just buy some caffeine pills!
