Xyience Energy Drink: Unveiling the Caffeine and Ingredients

Xyience Energy Drink: Unveiling the Caffeine and Ingredients

Xyience (pronounced ‘Science’ with a Z) is a carbonated energy drink that claims it is a ‘naturally flavored energy drink’ with zero calories and sugar.

Xyience is clearly trying to target health-conscious energy drinkers, as it also boldly states that it is ‘vitamin fortified.’ It does contain vitamins B12 and B6, which are water-soluble vitamins that are passed safely out through urine if taken in excess.

The only thing I’m not quite sure of is the ‘natural flavors’, as I can’t quite seem to work out where or what these flavors are being derived from.

Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients of Xyience Energy Drink to learn more!

Come to think of it, one thing that really jumps out at me is the sneaky way they’ve marketed both the caffeine and the sugar content.

Despite the fact that they’ve emblazoned 0g sugar on the rim of the can, that’s only natural, complex sugars and syrups. They absolutely do have a sweetener, sucralose inside the drink. While they might not technically be wrong, I think it’s not entirely accurate to then market the drink as having ‘0g sugar’.

In addition to that, they also mention on the back of the can that 8 fl. oz of Xyience Energy contains 88mg of caffeine. I’m not sure about you, but my mental math isn’t good enough to multiply 88mg of caffeine by 2 on the spot without whipping out my phone calculator.

In addition to that, there’s so much room for error on the part of the customers! If you’re casually browsing, you would more or less expect them to be upfront about the total caffeine content within the 16 fl. oz can, and not ask you to suddenly do math just to figure it out.

In case you were wondering, 88 times 2 equals 176- the amount of caffeine in a can of Xyience- they just tell you that there are 2 servings per can and then give you the “per serving” figure.

Clear as mud.

Xyience Energy Nutrition Facts on the back of the can.

Xyience Energy Drink Caffeine Content

Xyience Energy contains a total of 176g of caffeine in a single 16 fl. oz drink.

If we keep in mind the fact that the maximum daily recommended limit for caffeine consumption for a healthy adult is 400mg, a single can of Xyience brings you up to about half of this daily limit.

With 176mg of caffeine per can, Xyience is among the stronger energy drinks on the market.

The warning on the back can also remind you that it is not recommended for children under 18, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and people who are particularly sensitive to caffeine.

They also don’t recommend that you drink this product while simultaneously consuming alcohol, or mixing both together.

Some possible side effects of a caffeine overdose are:

  • Anxiety/panic attacks
  • Dehydration
  • Diarrhea
  • Headaches
For a more detailed explanation, watch this video to find out how caffeine affects your body when consumed in excess.

What is guarana seed extract?

The guarana seed extract is derived from the guarana plant, which is named after the Guarani tribe in the Amazon.

Guarana contains caffeine, which in turn, stimulates the central nervous system and gives you the energy boost that you need.

Besides caffeine, guarana also contains the chemicals theophylline and theobromine, which have a similar effect on the body as caffeine does.

Guarana has no known side effects besides those that usually come with overconsumption of caffeine- side effects that come with that can be seen above.

How much guarana seed extract is in Xyience?

On the surface, it seems that there is 176mg of guarana seed extract in Xyience.

They haven’t stated exactly how much of this caffeine is from the seed extract. However, it’s possible that this natural extract is supplemented by synthesized caffeine, which has the same chemical makeup as natural caffeine, so there’s nothing much to worry about.

What is sucralose?

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener that is supposed to replace natural sugars in food and drink.

Although sucralose has been deemed safe by government authorities, there have been concerns about the side effects that occur after consuming this sweetener.

Technically, sucralose is a simple sugar made from sugar in a chemical process where 3 hydrogen-oxygen groups are replaced with chlorine atoms.

In fact, sucralose has been found to reduce good gut bacteria (the ones that help improve your digestion- this study found that up to 12 weeks after the experiment, the gut bacteria had still not returned).

It can also help you lose weight to some extent but not enough evidence about the effects of long-term use of sucralose has been examined.

As with many modern chemicals, there often isn’t enough precedence for scientists and researchers to clearly state that these are side effects that are associated with the chemicals- only data collected over time will tell what effects the chemicals really have on the human body.

Xyience vs Red Bull

Caffeine

Xyience has 176mg of caffeine while Red Bull only has 80mg of caffeine per 8.4 fl. oz.

Xyience has double the amount of caffeine that Red Bull does, and it seems that Red Bull uses a combination of caffeine, sugar, and taurine in order to give their users an energy boost while Xyience leans very heavily on caffeine.

If you are caffeine sensitive, it’s probably better for you to try another energy drink with a lower caffeine content, like Red Bull or REIZE, which both contain under 100mg of caffeine.

Sugar

Xyience contains 0g of sugar, but Red Bull contains 26g of sugar.

Red Bull gets its sugar from the simple sugars sucrose and glucose, which have been broken down from complex sugars.

In contrast, Xyience uses sucralose, an artificial sweetener, and it is unclear exactly how much of it is included in the drink.

Price

A pack of 12 Xyience Energy usually costs around $29 depending on the flavor. In contrast, Red Bull cost around $2 per can.

Xyience is about double the price of Red Bull, and it certainly does not have the same international acclaim or impact.

If you’re caffeine-sensitive or aware that you don’t want to consume artificial sweeteners, then you may prefer Red Bull over Xyience.

Xyience vs Monster

Caffeine

Xyience has 176mg of caffeine and Monster is similar, with 179mg of caffeine per 16 fl. oz.

Xyience seems to get most of its energy from caffeine, as does Monster. As mentioned before, these drinks contain about half of the daily recommended limit of caffeine for an adult, which does come with its own problems.

If consuming either of them, make sure that you’re keeping track of any other caffeinated products that you are consuming on the side, including sodas.

Sugar

Xyience contains 0g of sugar, compared to Monster’s whopping 52g of sugar.

While Xyience contains 0g of natural sugar, it does contain artificial sugars, sucralose. While Monster may contain 52g of sugar, it gets them from simple sugars such as glucose, which comes from natural sugars that have been broken down.

Artificial vs natural- it’s up to you which you think is better.

Price

A pack of 12 Xyience Energy cost around $29 and you can get Monster for around $37 for a pack of 12.

If I wanted an energy boost at an affordable price, I’d stick with Xyience Energy.

Xyience vs Bang

Caffeine

Xyience has 176mg of caffeine and Bang has nearly double that at 300mg of caffeine per 16 fl. oz.

Bang has a lot more caffeine than Xyience, but I think both are marketed really similarly. Both target customers that are looking for an energy boost from ‘natural sources’, although neither really achieves that.

Bang seems a lot more potent than Xyience on these terms, and both are the same size- 16 fl. oz.

Sugar

Xyience and Bang Energy are both sugar-free.

However, both energy drinks still use artificial sweeteners- they share one sweetener, sucralose.

This also means that both Bang and Xyience are both more or less guilty of some amount of false advertising in my opinion- it’s not completely true that there are no sugars in either.

Price

Bang and Xyience cost the same around $2 per can.

Xyience is really similar to Bang in the way that it’s marketing itself, and for the price that it’s charging.

Xyience vs REIZE

REIZE
REIZE Energy.

Caffeine

Xyience has 176mg of caffeine while REIZE only has 50mg of caffeine per serving.

REIZE may seem like it does not have a lot of caffeine, but it makes up for it by including 1000mg of taurine, a substance that has been proven to provide good, clean energy.

In contrast, Xyience seems to tack all its energy boost onto caffeine, which while might be effective for some people, doesn’t work for everyone.

Sugar

Xyience and REIZE are both sugar-free.

REIZE does contain artificial sweeteners, but these have been extensively tested- acesulfame potassium and aspartame, the same ingredients used to sweeten Coke Zero Sugar, and many other common products.

In contrast, Xyience only uses sucralose, which does come with potential side effects, and not much research has been conducted on it.

Price

A can of Xyience Energy cost around $2 while a sachet of REIZE is priced at around $1 including shipping.

If you’re looking for efficiency that comes at a good price, then REIZE is the drink for you, as opposed to the massively overpriced Xyience.

In addition to that, REIZE is fully customizable- just add the water, juice, or sparkling water of your choice in order to enjoy a lovely and energizing beverage.

Alternatives to Xyience Energy Drink

There are lots of great energy drinks on the market. If you’re looking for some similar, liquid-based energy drinks that give a bit more energy than Xyience, take a look at:

Powdered energy drinks are also an option, and they tend to be more convenient and also more affordable than a lot of the market-leading energy drinks, but with the same great flavor and efficacy:

You could also take a look at other products like Vivarin caffeine pills if you are looking for something that’s quick and easy to take. The energy boost may not be up to scratch with some of the above-mentioned energy drinks though.

Make it Mio by Kraft is also worth a look.

REIZE (10 out of 10)

My all-time favorite energy-boosting buddy is REIZE Energy Drink.

REIZE is a powder energy drink that comes in convenient little sachets that you can mix fresh when you need a boost.

Instant energy, just add water!

With 50mg of caffeine, REIZE doesn’t have the same amount of caffeine that Xyience does, but it is a lot more convenient, affordable, and flexible since you can add all types of liquids to it – soda, hot water, cold water, flavored juice, it’s up to you!

REIZE ships right to your door for around $1 per drink, much cheaper than Xyience and most energy drinks on the market.

Give it a try today and you might just find that you prefer it to Xyience.
