What Is G Fuel Energy? (Facts, Details & More)

What Is G Fuel Energy? (Facts, Details & More)

G Fuel Energy is widely known for its collaboration with big-time Youtuber Pewdiepie and is a popular energy drink choice among gamers.

You may have heard of G Fuel, but have you ever wondered exactly what G Fuel actually is and what it does?

In short, G Fuel is an energy drink that comes in either powder or ready-to-drink cans that can potentially improve your physical and mental performance.

For more information about G Fuel, stick around as I explore the G Fuel ingredients along with its potential benefits and risks.

Let’s get started…

Who Is G Fuel Made For?

G Fuel originally marketed itself as a caffeinated supplement for gamers, claiming to improve reaction time and focus over other typical energy drinks.

Over the years, G Fuel really doubled down on its gaming image, however around 2019 the brand started to branch out and align itself with influencers outside of the gaming world in an effort to become more mainstream.

G Fuel is notable for its collaboration with Youtubers like Pewdiepie, live streamers, and esports players. Perhaps that’s how you first heard of the brand.

G Fuel Calorie Content

A 16 fl. oz can of G Fuel has zero calories while a 7g serving of G Fuel powder contains 25 calories.

Given that the recommended daily calorie intake is between 1,600 to 2,400 calories for women and 2,000 to 3,000 calories for men, neither version of G Fuel has much of an impact on your overall diet.

Though, if you’re watching your calorie intake, G Fuel cans are the better option of the two.

In the case of G Fuel Powder, if you’re someone who’s active and uses a lot of energy, then you’ll have no problem burning the calories you get from G Fuel powder.

If you feel the calories in G Fuel Powder are still too much for you and prefer other energy drinks like G Fuel cans, check out my article on the best zero-calorie energy drinks, which you’ll find interesting.

G Fuel Powder Ingredients

The powdered version of G Fuel contains a ton of ingredients, though it’s broken down into three complexes, which are the Energy Complex, Focus Complex, and Antioxidant Complex.

Here’s a picture you can take a look at to get an idea of each:

How Much Caffeine Is In G Fuel Powder?

Every 7g serving of G Fuel Powder contains 150mg of caffeine, which is pretty moderate for an energy drink.

Since a 7g serving of G Fuel Powder is supposed to be mixed with 16 fl.oz of water, G Fuel Powder has about the same amount of caffeine as other popular energy drinks of the same size like Rockstar and Monster which both have 160mg of caffeine per 16 fl.oz.

Personally, I prefer energy drinks that have between 50mg – 100mg of caffeine per serving, as that amount gives me just the right amount of energy without overwhelming me with the potential effects of too much caffeine.

Thus, I find the caffeine content in G Fuel Powder to be more than my personal preference. But 150mg might be the perfect amount of caffeine for you, depending on your caffeine metabolism.

That said, the FDA recommends that healthy adults limit their caffeine consumption to no more than 400mg in a day. Going over the daily caffeine limit could lead to potentially adverse effects like:

  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Dehydration
  • Anxiety
  • Caffeine dependency

Going by the FDA’s recommended daily caffeine intake limit, you can have up to two servings of G Fuel Powder. But if you consume more than two servings, you might end up with a caffeine overdose and a bunch of nasty side effects.

Thus to stay safe, you should control your intake of G Fuel powder and make sure that you never have more than 400mg of caffeine in a single day.

How Much Sugar Is In G Fuel Powder?

G Fuel Powder is completely sugar-free, which is good news if you’re trying to avoid regular sugar for health reasons.

Since G Fuel Powder has no sugar, you won’t have to worry about any sugar crash after drinking it.

The downside is that you might not get the usual dopamine rush that you may experience from other regular sugary energy drinks.

As for the reason why G Fuel Powder still tastes quite sweet, it’s attributable to the presence of artificial sweeteners in it – sucralose and acesulfame potassium.

Being around 200 – 700 times sweeter than sugar, sucralose and acesulfame potassium are zero-calorie sweeteners that have been approved by the FDA.

That said, artificial sweeteners have always been quite controversial in regards to their benefits and risk, but if you consume them in moderation, you shouldn’t have much to worry about.

How Much Caffeine Is In A Can Of G Fuel?

Each 16 fl.oz can of G Fuel contains 300mg of caffeine, which makes it one of the strongest energy drinks alongside Bang and Reign.

Labeled as Purecaf, the caffeine in G Fuel still functions the same way as regular caffeine, providing you with energy and increasing your alertness after ingestion.

With 300mg of caffeine, a G Fuel can absolutely isn’t for the caffeine-sensitive, but caffeine veterans might find that the canned version of G Fuel has just the right amount to fulfil their energy needs.

However, no matter how much energy you’re looking for from an energy drink, make sure to not exceed the daily caffeine intake limit of 400mg as approved by the FDA, or you might experience several unwanted negative effects.

Since the canned version of G Fuel has such a massive amount of caffeine, you can have only one can of G Fuel energy drink in a day, as having more might lead to a caffeine overdose.

Moderation is key.

How Much Sugar Is In Canned G Fuel?

Like G Fuel Powder, G Fuel cans are also sugar-free.

Similarly, G Fuel cans also contain artificial sweeteners, namely sucralose and acesulfame potassium.

As such, even though these sweeteners are said to be more beneficial and healthier than regular table sugar, there’s still plenty we don’t know about them, so you should still consume them in moderation.

Can You Drink G Fuel As A Pre-Workout?

You can drink either version of G Fuel as pre-workouts, as they can potentially boost your exercise performance.

If you’re planning to use G Fuel as a pre-workout, make sure that you choose only one of the versions, as both contain enough caffeine to get you pumped for your exercise routine.

Aside from being a natural stimulant, caffeine is known to increase alertness, improve physical performance and enhance brain functions.

In the case of exercise, a 2015 study found that the ingestion of caffeine increased accuracy and performance among elite volleyball players.

Another study found that caffeine improved endurance performance as well as complex cognitive abilities among cyclists.

So, if you’re wondering if caffeine can really help you through your workouts or not, it definitely can.

For best effect, you should have G Fuel, either the canned or powdered version, around 30 minutes before you start your workout. Caffeine reaches the peak plasma concentration around that time, and that’s when you’ll start to feel the peak effects of caffeine.

Since caffeine has a half-life of around 5-6 hours, the caffeine you get from energy drinks can remain in your body for almost the whole day depending on the amount that you consume.

Thus, it’s not a good idea to drink G Fuel near bedtime, as it could disrupt your total sleep time, and you may be tossing and turning throughout the night.

A good rule of thumb is not to have any caffeine at all within 6 hours of planning to go to sleep.

Is G Fuel Good For Gaming?

G Fuel is a good energy drink for gaming since it’s packed with caffeine that may improve your cognitive performance.

Caffeine doesn’t only aid in your physical performance, it’s also great in boosting your mental ability to get the cogs in your brain running well.

Gaming requires a lot of concentration, focus, and other cognitive abilities that caffeine can enhance.

There are a few studies that have proven caffeine can do so.

A review found that apart from an increase in alertness and exercise performance, reaction time, memory, and concentration also improved after the consumption of caffeinated energy drinks.

A 2008 study discovered that caffeine increased vigilance, mood and cognitive functions.

Just make sure to keep track of how much G Fuel you’re having while you’re gaming.

Sure, G Fuel can provide you with a great boost, but too much can put you over the daily caffeine limit, not to mention the potential side effects that may accompany that.

Is G Fuel Bad For Your Health?

As long as you don’t have any pre-existing medical conditions and lead a healthy lifestyle, G Fuel isn’t going to pose a risk to your health.

As the name implies, energy drinks like G Fuel are meant to give you energy when you need it. If you need a wake-up call or have to work through the night, having G Fuel may be a good way to decrease your fatigue and keep you awake for a few extra hours.

With that said, regardless of whether we’re talking about the canned or powdered version, it’s best to only have G Fuel occasionally.

After all, too much of a good thing can be bad for you. My advice is to drink G Fuel in moderation and you should be perfectly fine.

For a more detailed analysis, check out my other article on whether G Fuel is bad for you where I cover things in a lot more depth.

Is G fuel bad for kids?

Due to the stimulant content of G fuel and energy drinks in general, it is not advised to be consumed by children. It is generally advised that those that consume G fuel should be at the age of 18 years old.

For kids who have yet to have a sense of tolerance or the effect of caffeine in their bodies, consuming G fuel might impose some health risks. It is important to also take into consideration the maximum recommended caffeine intake for children.

In adults, it is considered normal to consume 400mg of caffeine in a day. For children between the age of 12 to 18 however, this number is significantly lowered.

Kids and teens are generally advised to consume only 100mg of caffeine in a day. Compare this to G fuel’s 150mg in a single serving then the effect of the drink will surely be detrimental with no benefits.

How long does G Fuel Energy last?

The effects of G Fuel last between 4 to 6 hours depending on how fast your body metabolizes it.

You’ll have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes for the effects of G Fuel to kick in after consuming a full serving. My advice would be to drink G Fuel slowly especially when you’re just starting with energy drinks.

Moderation is the key to reap the benefits of G Fuel and to keep on enjoying it longer.
