How Much Energy Is In Reign?

Each 16 fl. oz can of Reign contains only 10 calories.

There’s not a lot of caloric content in Reign, owing to the absence of sugar, which is great if you’re looking for a low-calorie drink that won’t affect your overall diet.

For your information, the daily recommended caloric intake for healthy adults is between 2000 to 2400 calories for women and 2400 to 3000 calories for men.

So 10 calories is pretty much nothing compared to some other popular energy drinks, which can have up to 260 calories.

On the other hand, most of the immediate energy in Reign comes from caffeine, which binds with the adenosine receptors in your brain, making you feel less tired and more alert when you consume it.

Besides how the lack of sugar does translate to lower calories and less energy burned, you’re probably not going to get a sugar crash from it either.

How Much Caffeine is in Reign?

Each 16 fl. oz can of Reign contains 300mg of caffeine, all sourced from green coffee beans and tea leaves.

With 300mg of caffeine, Reign is one of the strongest energy drinks available in the market—a dubious honor that it shares with Bang.

Due to being marketed as a workout drink, the extra caffeine may prove beneficial as caffeine has been noted to increase exercise performance.

Still, the FDA recommends you limit your daily caffeine intake to a maximum of 400mg, as any more might lead to a caffeine overdose. Too much caffeine can lead to some notable side effects, namely:

  • Insomnia
  • Anxiousness
  • Increased Heart Rate
  • Digestive Issues
  • Nausea
  • Headaches

This depends on how sensitive you are to caffeine and how often you consume beverages with caffeine in them. So if you enjoy your coffee black, you might find Reign right up your alley.

How Much Sugar is in Reign?

Reign energy drinks are advertised as sugar-free and don’t contain any sugar.

Being sugar-free, Reign may not give you the same dopamine rush that sugared energy drinks might give, but it’s definitely more beneficial to your overall health and diet.

The AHA proposes a limit for daily sugar intake— no more than 36g for men and 25g for women.

With Reign being sugar-free, this does leave some wiggle room if you happen to have a sweet tooth, without you needing to worry if Reign might put you over the daily limit.

It also means Reign won’t give you the dreaded sugar crash you get after consuming an energy drink with high sugar content.

As for why Reign tastes fairly sweet even without sugar, Reign contains artificial sweeteners, namely Sucralose and Acesulphame Potassium.

Both are zero-calorie sweeteners, and thus don’t affect your caloric count, though they might still trigger the same responses in the body as sugar does, according to this research paper here.

That said, there’s still a lot we don’t know about artificial sweeteners, even though they’ve been certified as safe for commercial use, so it’s always best to consult a health specialist if you’re ever unsure.

If you’re looking for more energy drinks that can give you a boost without the crash, feel free to take a look at the best energy drinks without a crash article I’ve written previously.

What are BCAAs in Reign?

The 1000mg BCAAs in Reign consist of L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine, and mainly benefit you if you have a consistent exercise routine as it has muscle-related benefits.

BCAA’s (Branch Chained Amino Acids) are essential amino acids that cannot be produced by the body itself; thus, it has to be absorbed from outside sources.

The main benefits of BCAAs are as follows:

  • Increases muscle growth
  • Decreases muscle soreness
  • Reduces exercise fatigue
  • Prevents muscle wastage

While this may sound great for an energy drink, note that you already get a healthy amount of BCAAs through a varied diet.

So while BCAAs in Reign may be beneficial, those who follow a healthy lifestyle may find the presence of BCAAs in Reign slightly redundant.

Other Ingredients

CoQ10 is a naturally produced antioxidant that your cells use for growth and maintenance.

However, we don’t exactly know how much CoQ10 is present in Reign, so we can’t really say if the ingredient has any substantial benefits.

B-Vitamins are of course another staple energy drink ingredient that provides various benefits, such as releasing energy and breaking down amino acids.

Reign does, however, go over the daily recommended B-Vitamin intake, though not enough to be a major cause for alarm, as shown by the table below:

Does Reign Energy Drink Work?

Man preparing to lift a weight.
Body Fuel or can full of caffeine?

With 300mg of caffeine, Reign definitely works well as an energy drink, sure to keep you focused and awake for the duration of its effects.

As for its claims of being a good workout drink, there is some truth to that as well. The caffeine will definitely help with exercise performance, even if you have built up a caffeine tolerance.

Reign also contains electrolytes, which can help to replenish the salts in the body that you’ve lost through exercise, but unless you’re doing some really intense workout training, this shouldn’t really factor in.

In any case, Reign does what it advertises on the can, although you might want to take note of your caffeine sensitivity before having Reign, as not everyone can handle the high amount of caffeine it has.

Reign Energy Drink Flavors

Reign has an interesting selection of flavors, being mostly fruit-inspired. The flavors they have so far (apart from their Inferno series) are:

  • Orange Dreamsicle
  • Melon Mania
  • Peach Fizz
  • Razzle Berry
  • Sour Apple
  • Carnival Candy
  • Lemon HDZ
  • Strawberry Sublime
  • Mang-o-Matic
  • Lilikoi Lychee
  • Cherry Limeade

What Does Reign Taste Like?

As Reign comes in a variety of flavors and doesn’t really have an ‘original’ flavor, its taste varies from can to can, ranging from overtly sweet candy to a pretty sour lemon flavor.

As always, pick the flavor that sounds most enticing to you. While I personally wouldn’t go for Carnival Candy, it might just be what you need to get you going.

How Much Does Reign Energy Drink Cost?

On Amazon, a 12-pack of 16 fl. oz cans of Reign Energy drink costs around $19, which roughly translates to one can of Reign being priced at around $1.60.

Reign is also sold at most local stores across the US, but if you’re looking to get it in another country, it might cost you a bit more.

Though it’s certainly not the cheapest energy drink on the market, it is sold at a reasonable price for what it does.

That said, Reign is cheaper than its closest competitor, Bang (about $1 cheaper per can). If you want to know more about the whole Reign vs Bang situation, feel free to take a look at the article I’ve written on all of the similarities and differences.

Reign Energy Drink Review (8 out of 10)

6 different flavors of Reign Energy Drink
A flavor for everyone.

All things considered, Reign is a great drink for you if you’re looking for a pre-exercise boost or an energy boost in general as it has a satisfactory blend of energy-providing ingredients.

That said, the caffeine content is very high. Personally, I prefer somewhere between 50 to 100mg of caffeine per serving, so as to not get too overwhelmed by the effects of too much caffeine.

I personally recommend that you stick with no more than one 16 fl. oz can of Reign per day. While it has a minimal impact on your calorie and sugar intake, Reign does have a high amount of caffeine, something that you should watch out for.

All things considered, I give Reign a solid 8 out of 10. If it didn’t contain so much caffeine and if it was a little more affordable I would have given it an even higher score.

Reign Energy Drink Alternatives

Reign may be great if you work out a lot, but here are some other good options if you’re open to trying something different from Reign:

There are also some awesome powdered options such as:
