Advertised as being a ‘Total Body Fuel”, Reign has everything you want in a pre-workout energy drink, with a healthy serving of BCAAs, B vitamins, and a whole lot of caffeine.

But are all these ingredients actually good for you? And should you even be having this casually if you don’t plan on doing intensive exercise?

Reign isn’t bad for you as long as you moderate your consumption. Its 300mg of caffeine can be overwhelming, so you should gauge how your body reacts. Even if you are used to energy drinks, you should still keep your intake to one can a day to minimise side effects.

How Many Calories Are In Reign?

Each 16 fl. oz can of Reign only contains 10 calories.

There aren’t a lot of calories in Reign, owing to the absence of sugar, which is great if you’re looking for a low-calorie drink that won’t affect your overall diet.

For your information, the daily recommended caloric intake for healthy adults is between 2000 to 2400 calories for women and 2400 to 3000 calories for men.

So 10 calories is pretty much nothing in the grand scheme of your overall diet.

Fair warning, energy drinks shouldn’t be taken as replacements for your daily meals, so if you want to maximise your exercise potential, be sure to have a proper meal alongside Reign.

Reign Energy Drink Caffeine Content

Each 16 fl. oz can of Reign contains 300mg of caffeine, all sourced from green coffee beans and tea leaves.

With 300mg of caffeine, Reign is one of the strongest energy drinks available, right alongside its closest competitor Bang.

Due to being marketed as a workout drink, the extra caffeine may prove beneficial as caffeine has definitely been noted to increase exercise performance.

Even so, while you might get an exercise boost from all that caffeine, 300mg is a lot of caffeine, so unless you have a pretty hefty caffeine metabolism, I would advise against downing Reign in one sitting.

For reference, the FDA recommends you limit your daily caffeine intake to a maximum of 400mg, as any more might lead to a caffeine overdose. Too much caffeine can lead to some notable side effects, namely:

  • insomnia
  • anxiousness
  • increased heart rate
  • digestive issues
  • nausea
  • headaches

Therefore, be sure to keep your caffeine intake to a tolerable minimum, and try not to have any other beverages which have caffeine, such as sodas, coffee or tea, if you’re planning on cracking open a Reign.

Does Reign Energy Drink Have Sugar?

Since Reign is sugar-free, it doesn’t contain any sugar at all.

The lack of sugar means that, while Reign won’t provide you with substantial calories for your workout, you also don’t have to account for it when focusing on your diet.

As always, you shouldn’t ever have too much sugar in your diet. As a guide, the AHA recommends a daily sugar limit of no more than 25g for women and 36g for men.

So even if Reign won’t impact your daily nutritional diet much, be sure to still keep an eye on your overall diet, and try and keep your sugar intake on the down low.

Does Reign Have Artificial Sweeteners?

While Reign doesn’t contain sugar, it does have artificial sweeteners, namely sucralose and acesulfame potassium.

Both sucralose and acesulfame potassium are zero-calorie sweeteners, so they won’t leave an impact on your diet if that happens to be your concern.

While they won’t have you spaced out from a sugar rush, there are concerns about the safety of artificial sweeteners in the long run.

In any case, artificial sweeteners have been approved for use by the FDA. So as long as you have Reign only when you need it, you shouldn’t need to be too worried about this particular ingredient.

Do Reign Energy Drinks Make You Crash?

Reign Energy Drink doesn’t cause crashes, as the lack of sugar means that the blood-sugar level will stay relatively normal when having the drink.

Sugary energy drinks are often known for causing sugar crashes, which are characterised by a feeling of tiredness and lethargy after a few hours of having an energy drink.

Since Reign doesn’t contain any sugar or other complex carbohydrates, it shouldn’t cause a sugar crash when you have one, which is one of the major benefits of having a sugar-free energy drink.

As for the artificial sweeteners, both sucralose and acesulfame potassium have no effect on your insulin or blood sugar levels so you won’t get a crash from these ingredients either.

From a health perspective, Reign definitely seems like a healthier energy drink, mostly due to it being sugar-free and having fewer calories than Monster (10 compared to 240).

Truth be told, neither energy drink could technically be considered a ‘healthy’ option: Reign has a staggering amount of caffeine, while Monster has far too much sugar in a single can.

However, when comparing the two, Reign is definitely the slightly healthier of the two due to it not having as much sugar.

Plus, Monster’s high sugar content means you’re more likely to suffer from a sugar crash, which you won’t experience with Reign, as Reign doesn’t have any sugar at all.

How Many Cans of Reign Can I Have A Day?

I personally recommend that you have no more than one can of Reign Energy Drink per day, owing to the relatively high caffeine content per can.

While you don’t have to worry about the sugar content for Reign, the high caffeine content should stop you from having more than one can a day.

Otherwise, you may experience some side effects from consuming excessive caffeine.

At 300mg of caffeine, Reign is just barely below the FDA’s recommended limit of 400mg per day. Having more than one a day would definitely put you at risk of caffeine overdose, no matter your tolerance level.

So I would recommend that you only have a can of Reign when you need it, and consult a health specialist on whether adding Reign Energy Drink to your diet would be beneficial for you.

If consumed in moderation, Reign isn’t bad for you at all, especially if you intend to use it as advertised.

All in all, Reign is a pretty good energy drink and is definitely one of the better energy drinks if you’re looking for one to complement your workouts.

Even so, Reign’s exceptionally high caffeine content really isn’t for everyone, especially if you’re new to caffeinated beverages or if you happen to be caffeine-sensitive.

But as long as you have Reign in moderation, you should be perfectly safe from any possible side effects from the drink.
