28 Black Ingredients List
Before we go deeper into 28 Black, here’s a breakdown of the ingredients inside one can of 28 Black:
- Carbon Dioxide
- Citric Acid
- Lactic Acid
- Ascorbic Acid
- Pantothenic Acid
- Vitamin B6
- Vitamin B12
- Acai Extract
- Acesulfame Potassium
- Steviol Glycoside
- Guarana Extract
Extracted from acai berries (pronounced as ah-sah-ee), these are small and purple round berried. They are native in Central and South America.
These berries are coined as “nature’s superfood” for their high counts of nutrients, antioxidants, minerals, and essential fatty acids.
They also have anti-aging and weight loss properties. But further studies need to be conducted for a more conclusive answer.
28 Black has 4% content of Acai Extract, and it’s their main ingredient for flavoring the energy drink.
28 Black’s caffeine content in one can is 80mg.
Here is a table of comparison along with other energy drink brands in the market.
|28 Black||8.45 fl.oz||80mg|
|Red Bull||12 fl.oz||147.6mg|
As you can see, the caffeine content of 28 Black is on the lower end compared to the other energy drinks in the market.
According to the FDA, the daily caffeine limit is 400mg, so the caffeine content in 28 Black lies far from that limit, so you don’t have to worry too much about having a caffeine overdose.
Excessive caffeine can result in negative side effects such as:
- High blood pressure
So do be careful not to take more caffeine than you can handle and always drink caffeinated beverages, including 28 Black, in moderation.
There are 5 vitamins in the ingredient list:
- Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
- Niacin (B3)
- Pantothenic Acid (B5)
- Pyridoxine (B6)
- Cobalamin (B12)
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
Vitamin C is an essential vitamin that’s especially beneficial if you have low blood pressure, common cold, and even high cholesterol.
However, 28 Black only uses ascorbic acid as a stabilizer for the flavor and the microbiology of the energy drink itself, binding oxygen, which helps maintain longer shelf life.
Niacin (Vitamin B3)
Being another B Vitamin found in the energy drink, Niacin is an organic compound that improves cholesterol levels inside the body.
If you lack Niacin, you will experience headaches, mental fatigue, and minor skin problems, so it’s definitely a plus that 28 Black contains Niacin.
Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)
Vitamin B5 is an essential and important vitamin for the human body, being responsible for making healthy red blood cells, assisting the functions of the digestive tract, and help the liver and nervous system function.
Being deficient in B5 is rare, but symptoms may include irritability, stomach cramps, insomnia, fatigue, and nausea.
These are some common foods that are rich in Vitamin B5:
- Green Leafy Vegetables
- Whole Grains
Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6)
Like all B-Vitamins, this is water-soluble and is a necessity for several functions of the body.
Vitamin B6 is significant to the body because it metabolizes protein, fat, and carbohydrates, and also aid in the creation and regeneration of neurotransmitters and red blood cells.
While you can get B6 through your diet, there’s still a possibility that you might be lacking the vitamin, where symptoms of deficiency include: anemia, dermatitis, and a weakened immune system.
B6 may improve the following bodily functions:
- Mood Regulation
- Overall Brain Health
- Reduce Risk of Heart Disease
- Prevent Clogged Arteries
- Promote Eye Health
So having B6 in 28 Black is definitely a beneficial addition to the drink.
Cobalamin (Vitamin B12)
The last water-soluble vitamin in the drink is Vitamin B12. Cobalamin is also an essential vitamin for the body.
This vitamin occurs naturally in different types of meat like pork, beef, and poultry, helping in the regulation of brain and nerve function.
A deficiency in B12 will result in loss of appetite, weight loss, and in some cases, constipation.
While 28 Black contains all these vitamins, your body is very clever. It’s made so that excessive vitamins will be flushed out of the system, so there is no point in having too many of these vitamins either.
Is 28 Black Sugar-Free?
A large number of 28 Black’s variations are sugar-free, so it would be suitable for you if you’re trying to follow any specific diet.
- Tooth decay
- High blood pressure
That said, if you go for 28 Black’s sugar-free variations, you wouldn’t have to worry about any of these.
As of now, they currently have three sugar-free variations available in the market, namely:
- 28 BLACK Acai Zero
- 28 BLACK Classic Zero
- 28 BLACK Absolute Zero Guava-Passion Fruit
These are perfect for you who love energy drinks but don’t love the sugar crash that comes with them. Sugar-free options are always a good choice because they give energy without the added calories inside the sweeteners.
Does 28 Black Use Artificial Sweeteners?
Basing from their ingredient lists, there are three artificial sweeteners.
- Acesulfame Potassium
- Steviol Glycoside
These are all alternatives to sugar. They provide the same sweet taste that your traditional sugar but without the crash and without the calories.
Acesulfame potassium, also known as acesulfame K or Ace K, is a sugar substitute that is calorie-free. Its sweetness level can go as high as up to 200 times sweeter than your regular table sugar.
Steviol Glycosides is a sweetener derived from the stevia rebaudiana plant (or stevia in short) commonly found in South America. These are compounds added in a diverse variety of drinks and food. This sweetener offers no energy value.
Sucralose is a artificial sweetener that has zero-calories. It is derived via chemical process. Major components of sucralose are not broken down by the body therefore it is noncaloric.
While the FDA has approved the use of artificial sweeteners for general use, it is important to moderate your intake of them, as the effects of long-term use of artificial sweeteners are still a bit of a mystery.
If you want to do without all the artificial sweeteners, have a look at the article I’ve written on the best all-natural energy drinks, for some options a bit closer to nature.
Is 28 Black Healthy?
Looking at its ingredients and nutritional value, I think 28 Black is a pretty solid choice of energy drink if you’re looking for something relatively healthy.
Apart from them being free from gluten and lactose, they also offer sugar-free versions of their drinks, and the caffeine content of 28 Black is on the lower end with only 80mg as well.
So if you’re lactose intolerant or follow a gluten-free diet, good news for you! 28 Black would be suitable for you.
With that being said, you should always do your own research and due diligence and see if this energy drink is right for you.
What Does 28 Black Taste Like?
In the taste department, I find it to be refreshing as it has this grapey flavor with a sour aftertaste that’s just right, being pleasant and not too sour to the point of making your face scrunch up.
In case you’re wondering if there’s a difference between their original and sugar-free version, I would say they both taste the same, with the same acai flavor.
So even if you buy the original one or their sugar-free one, expect them to both taste great.
