Beyond G Fuel: Top Alternatives in the Energy Drink Market

Beyond G Fuel: Top Alternatives in the Energy Drink Market

Sugar-free and with a moderate amount of caffeine, G Fuel is certainly many of us’s energy drink of choice, and with its various flavors and ringing endorsements, it’s pretty hard to beat.

That being said, there are plenty of other energy drinks out there that are similar to G Fuel, whether they come in can or powder form, so you definitely have options if you know where to look.

In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the in’s and out’s of G Fuel, from its nutrition facts and ingredients, and have a look at which other brands are similar to G Fuel that you may also like to check out.

So for more information on G Fuel and to discover some great G Fuel alternatives, stick around.

Let’s get started…

How Many Calories Are In G Fuel?

A 7g serving of G Fuel contains between 10 to 25 calories, depending on which flavor you choose.

Given that your standard serving of G Fuel is mixed with 12 to 16 fl.oz of water, 25 calories for the size of a typical energy drink is actually quite small.

For comparison, a single 8.4 fl.oz of Red Bull has 80 calories, while a 16 fl.oz can of Monster has 210 calories.

So while G Fuel isn’t going to find itself on the zero-calorie energy drinks list anytime soon, its small caloric content will definitely help you in maintaining a relatively healthy calorie intake.

That said, your body does require a substantial amount of calories, which on average ranges around 2000 calories for women and 2500 calories for men, personal metabolism and lifestyle choices notwithstanding.

So, while mixing up a serving of G Fuel can definitely give you a decent boost, it’s not quite the same as a full meal, given the stark difference in calorie and nutritional content.

In any case, if you’re in the market for energy drinks similar to G Fuel, anything with a low-calorie content should fit the bill.

Wondering what the difference is between G Fuel cans and G Fuel powder? This article covers everything you need to know!

G Fuel Energy Drink Ingredients

G Fuel has a relatively long list of ingredients. However, some of the ingredients are only included in tiny amounts.

For a quick listing of what a single 7g serving of G Fuel will get you ingredients-wise, have a look at the listing below.

But for a more in-depth discussion with detailed analyses of all the ingredients, take a look at the comprehensive article I’ve written about G Fuel’s Caffeine and Ingredients here.

Besides caffeine, we have no information about how much of the other ingredients are actually included. All we know is that they add up to 1.85g in total.

Focus Complex

G Fuel’s Focus Complex has a total of 1.2g (no breakdown of specific ingredients) of the following ingredients:

How Much Caffeine Is In G Fuel?

Each 7g serving of G Fuel has between 140 and 150mg of caffeine, depending on the flavor, which is a fairly average amount for an energy drink.

Considering that each 7g of Gfuel powder is recommended to be mixed with 12 to 16 fl.oz of water, the caffeine content is actually a pretty standard amount of caffeine for an energy drink.

Personally, as someone who prefers to have a caffeine content between 50 to 100mg per serving, the caffeine in G Fuel is still a little higher than what I would like but not too much that I wouldn’t ever consider having it.

Of course, depending on your own caffeine metabolism and personal tolerance, you might find G Fuel’s 150mg serving to be just the right amount to get a good buzz going.

Remember, the FDA approves a caffeine intake limit of no more than 400mg per day. Any more than that might lead to side effects such as:

  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness
  • Headaches
  • Stomachaches
  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration
  • Anxiety

As for picking out an energy drink with a caffeine content similar to G Fuel, anywhere in the ballpark of 100mg to 200mg per serving should serve you well.

That being said, if you don’t exactly follow standard serving procedures and like to personalize your servings, you’ll probably get more mileage with powdered energy drinks due to the increased flexibility they offer.

Does G Fuel Have Sugar?

G Fuel is sugar-free, which makes it a healthier choice for you compared to most sugary energy drinks out there on the market.

Although sugar isn’t always the big bad wolf it’s made out to be, consistently having too much sugar can lead to some serious health issues. One prominent health issue is metabolic syndrome.

So if you’re looking for an energy drink similar to G Fuel, sugar-free or low-sugar options will be your best bet, preferably those with less than the AHA‘s recommended max daily sugar limit of 25g for women or 36g for men.

Low sugar content also means avoiding the dreaded sugar crash that usually comes with sugary energy drinks, which is always a plus.

Does G Fuel Have Artificial Sweeteners?

While free of regular sugar, G Fuel contains artificial sweeteners, namely, Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium.

As both Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium have been approved for use by the FDA, they work as healthier alternatives to sugar that won’t hamper your diet.

However, there’s still quite a bit of uncertainty regarding the long-term use of artificial sweeteners on the body, so having too many drinks with artificial sweeteners in them might not be the best idea.

In any case, it’s pretty hard to avoid artificial sweeteners when looking through zero-calorie energy drinks, considering that a majority of them do use artificial sweeteners to improve the taste, which would be bland otherwise.

Fret not, however, all-natural energy drinks should have you covered, as they’re most often naturally sweetened and contain no synthetic ingredients.

So if you really want to stay on the healthier side of life, all-natural energy drinks are definitely the way to go.

For a full list of the healthiest energy drinks, check out the article that I’ve got on that topic which covers things in a lot of detail.

Vitamins in G Fuel

Although not strictly essential, an energy drink having some amount of vitamin content does elevate it. That said, the most important ingredients in energy drinks are still caffeine and sugar content.

I’ve listed the vitamins present in G Fuel in the table below, and for more information on B-Vitamins and what exactly they do, click on the link here.

Are Energy Drink Powders Better?

In the ongoing debate between whether or not energy drink powders or energy drink cans are better, the choice is really up to you and what you value the most in your energy drinks.

Powdered energy drinks are usually more affordable as they offer more effective servings, which can result in a much greater value per drink.

Most powdered energy drinks also often don’t contain sugar and aren’t excessively carbonated, making them easier for your gut to process.

That being said, energy drink cans are infinitely more convenient to have on the go, as you can just grab one out of the fridge, or get one on your way to work without having to worry about the need to mix and measure.

To conclude, whether you prefer energy powders or regular energy drinks is entirely down to personal preference. As long as it works for you, either option is perfectly fine.

Is G Fuel Better Than Energy Drinks?

G Fuel is available in powdered form and also in ready-to-drink cans, so technically, G Fuel is an energy drink.

But, if you’re asking whether G Fuel powder is better than other energy drinks that come in cans, the answer is that it really depends on what you prefer.

Powdered energy drinks have their advantages, including:

  • more affordable
  • more customizable
  • easier to transport and carry

While ready-to-drink energy drinks also have their own advantages:

  • easier to drink on the go
  • no need to mix your own drink

In my opinion, the better affordability and increased versatility of powders win out, but perhaps you prefer the ease of just grabbing a can on the go.

Do Gaming Energy Drinks Work?

While drinking energy drinks won’t suddenly turn you into a professional gamer, they do help in giving you a momentary edge, provided you can handle the caffeine, of course.

When it comes to competitive video games, an energy drink may give you the edge you need to win since caffeine has been proven to temporarily improve cognitive performance.

However, if you prefer having a clear head while gaming, energy drinks such as G Fuel may do more harm than good, especially if you’ve had too much and start suffering from caffeine-related side effects.

In all honesty, my first experience of drinking G Fuel wasn’t pleasant. I felt way too much of a boost to be able to think straight. Not bad if you’re in the gym throwing weights around, but definitely not ideal if you’re trying to coordinate with teammates during an intense gaming session.

In any case, so long as you have an energy drink that’s suitable for your tolerances, then having a gaming energy drink should help to give you an edge against your opponents.

Just make sure not to have too many of them in a short period, and remember to stay hydrated with some actual water to stay hydrated.

If you want to learn more about the best gaming energy drinks to put you at the top of your game, check out the article I’ve written about them here.

And if you want another opinion on gaming energy drinks and how well each of the more prominent brands works, the video below should prove pretty informative:

What energy drink is best for gaming?

There are many energy drinks nowadays that are marketed as good for gaming. Some of those drinks include G fuel, Sneak and Redbull which are now described s gaming-enhancing products.

Ultimately, your gaming needs will be the deciding factor for what energy drink is best for you. A key criterion for gaming energy drinks is the amount of caffeine present which will surely help with alertness and focus, for this Monster and G Fuel leads the competition with 160mg of caffeine content.

If on the other hand, you are preparing for long gaming sessions then it is best to opt for energy drinks with low to zero sugars. As this drink may not give you a significant boost in energy but will prevent you from crashing despite hours on end of gaming.

Is G Fuel As Bad As Red Bull?

In my opinion, Red Bull isn’t so bad. Sure, it contains a decent whack of sugar and you should be aware of exactly what goes into Red Bull, but in truth, the ingredients of Red Bull and G Fuel aren’t so wildly different.

Both G Fuel and Red Bull contain the same key ingredients and affect you in a very similar way. Both have their use cases and there are people out there who love them for different reasons.

However, I think to say that one brand is healthy and the other is not is a bit misleading. In my view, neither is the absolute worst thing that you could put into your body, but neither is the elixir of good health either.

Drink G Fuel or Red Bull in moderation and you’ll be just fine.

If you want to read more facts about whether Red Bull is bad for you, check out this article that I wrote.

G Fuel Alternatives

In no particular order, here are some notable off-the-shelf energy drinks that are similar to G Fuel.

Reign/Bang

Reign Can and Bang Can
Reign and Bang; high caffeine for no calories.

If you ever need a mighty caffeine boost on short notice, Reign and Bang are great choices, although their viability as a G Fuel alternative is somewhat questionable.

While pretty different from one another, Reign and Bang do share some similarities. Both have 300mg of caffeine and zero calories, which certainly gives you a strong boost.

Although it seems odd to suggest energy drinks with double the amount of caffeine G Fuel Powder has, it should be noted that G Fuel Cans also have 300mg of caffeine in them. So in a sense, Reign and Bang are similar to G Fuel cans, but not so similar to G Fuel powder.

Be warned though, that the high caffeine in these drinks isn’t for everyone, so be sure to know your own tolerance before diving into the 300mg caffeinated deep end with either Bang or Reign.

For more information on whether Reign or Bang would be better for you, have a look at the detailed article I’ve written on Reign VS Bang.

Celsius

Celsius Energy Drinks side by side
A fruity alternative to your G Fuel needs.

Celsius is another pretty good choice if you’re looking for something similar to G Fuel.

Each 12 fl.oz can of Celsius contains 10 calories, 200mg of caffeine, and a bunch of beneficial ingredients, including Vitamin C, which, while also present in G Fuel, is a pretty rare find in an energy drink

So if you’re fond of fruity flavors and prefer your energy drinks with a cleaner consistency like G Fuel, then Celsius might also be up your alley.

Want to know more about Celsius? I’ve written all about it in an article discussing Celsius’ caffeine and ingredients right here.

Game Fuel

A can of Game Fuel on the table.
Not to be confused with G Fuel, of course.

If you’re itching for another energy drink to give you an edge, Game Fuel might prove to be an excellent choice.

Each 16 fl.oz can of Game Fuel has 90 calories, 90mg of caffeine, and 23g of sugar, along with a handful of B-Vitamins and Panax Ginseng Root Extract.

Due to its relatively low caffeine content, this makes Game Fuel a good alternative if you happen to be more sensitive to caffeine and can’t really handle G Fuel all that well.

Game Fuel also has a fairly small amount of sugar, so if you’re looking for an energy drink to give you a small sugar boost, Game Fuel has you covered.

For more information on Game Fuel, take a look at the review article I’ve written about it here.

ZipFizz

A row of ZippFizz arranged on a table.
They certainly are colorful.

At only 20 calories, 2g of sugar, and 100mg of caffeine per serving, Zipfizz is a lightweight, portable powder alternative to the bulky tubs G Fuel is packaged in.

Its tube-like servings also mean you won’t have to spend time measuring out powders, as you just need to pour all of the pre-measured contents into 16 to 20 fl.oz of water, which saves you plenty of time.

With multiple flavors to choose from, Zipfizz is great for the energy drink enthusiast on the go and is another good powdered energy drink that G Fuel fans might also enjoy.

You can read my Zipfizz review here.

REIZE (10 out of 10)

A glass of REIZE Energy Drink next to a packet of REIZE.
REIZE is awesome.

In my opinion, there isn’t a better alternative to G Fuel Powder than REIZE Energy Drink, no matter the occasion.

Coming in convenient 4g sachets and with a sensible 50mg of caffeine, REIZE is completely sugar-free, with only 11 calories per serving.

REIZE contains a great mix of beneficial ingredients, such as taurine, ginseng, and B-group vitamins, which all come together in a smart formula, giving you the perfect energy boost without the crash.

Best of all, you can get REIZE shipped straight to your door for only about $1 per drink.

That’s amazing value for money.

Try REIZE today and I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s a smarter choice than G Fuel.
