Best Energy Drinks In Ireland (Best Options)

Are you looking for the best energy drinks you can get in Ireland?

Look no further because you’re in for a treat.

In this article, I’ll be taking you through the most popular brands in Ireland, discussing the good and bad of each energy drinks brand, and guiding you through what to consider when buying an energy drink.

But if you happen to be looking for ways to buy American Energy Dinks online, check out this article here.

Otherwise, let’s get started.

What To Consider Before Buying Energy Drinks

Caffeine

Energy drinks contain stimulants, namely caffeine, and can range from as low as 50mg to 300mg of caffeine in a single can.

The caffeine in energy drinks can enhance your physical and mental performance. A healthy dose in your system can also boost up your mood in tiring or cognitively challenging situations.

But of course, the effectiveness of an energy drink differs based on your caffeine metabolism. That said, it’s also a good thing to keep your caffeine intake in moderation even though you have a high caffeine tolerance.

For guidance, healthy adults should consume no more than 400mg of caffeine in a day, as recommended by the EFSA.

Going over the limit can lead to adverse effects like:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Insomnia
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dehydration
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Uncontrollable muscle movements

Thus, it’s important to choose energy drinks that have a suitable amount of caffeine for you to prevent a caffeine overdose.

Sugar

Another key ingredient in energy drinks is sugar, so it’s no surprise that some contain a high amount of sugar. Hence, it’s important to control your sugar intake for the sake of your health.

According to the NHS guidelines, healthy adults should only have a maximum of 30g of added sugars daily, which is around 7 sugar cubes.

If you find yourself regularly going over the limit, you may be at risk of health-damaging effects in the long run:

  • Acne
  • Tooth decay
  • Weight gain
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Cancer

Also, consuming sugary energy drinks can lead to some nasty sugar crash once the effect wears off.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of sugar-free energy drinks and energy drinks that have less sugar on the market. Choosing these healthier alternatives can save you from putting your health at risk.

Price

You don’t have to break your piggy bank for energy drinks

In terms of price, we all want an energy drink that’s both of a sustainable price, as well as of good quality.

Some energy drinks are heavily advertised with company claims that their special blend of formula or additional ingredients they use can increase the benefits, which explains why they’re so pricey.

Although it’s normal to get tempted over good marketing, it doesn’t always guarantee that the energy drinks would work well for you. Some affordable brands might even work better compared to the expensive ones.

My go-to energy drink is REIZE Energy because it’s affordable and works perfectly for me. If you want to know more about it, read on.

Which Energy Drink Is The Most Effective?

While the caffeine content present in an energy drink influences its effectiveness, it also depends on how well your body reacts to it.

But if you’re looking at it from the caffeine perspective, Bang and Reign both contain a high amount of 300mg of caffeine. No wonder they’re considered some of the strongest energy drinks.

But if you’re sensitive to caffeine, these powerful energy drinks may not be for you.

Instead, you can opt for energy drinks with moderate caffeine content, such as Zevia Zero and V Energy. You’ll be sure to get an energy boost without the overwhelming side effects of caffeine.

How Old Do You Have To Be Buy Energy Drinks In Ireland?

To buy energy drinks in Ireland, you need to be above 16 years old.

Although they aren’t any blanket ban made by the Government, international supermarket chain Aldi will only allow anyone above 16 years old to buy energy drinks in Ireland. Boots Ireland have also followed suit.

Red Bull

Sadly, Red Bull doesn’t give you ctual wings

Caffeine Content: 80mg

Sugar Content: 27g

We’re starting with this legend, and I’m sure Red Bull needs no further introduction. After all, it’s the most famous energy drink brand in the world.

Its signature bull logo can be suitable for all types of situations, be it extreme sports or day-to-day activities, such as studying and gaming.

If you’re not familiar with Red Bull, there’s 80mg of caffeine, 27g of sugar and, 110 calories present in its 250ml can.

Red Bull has a relatively modest caffeine content, which makes it suitable for almost everything, but it does contain a high sugar and calorie amount.

This isn’t a big deal if you plan to burn off all those calories, but if you have a more sedentary lifestyle, you may want to opt for the Red Bull Sugar-Free.

Red Bull also has a wide range of flavours to accommodate each personal preference which is a bonus. Thus, it’s a good energy drink and one worth trying if you haven’t.

But I do recommend limiting your intake and have Red Bull in moderation. I’ve written my take on this drink at Red Bull Energy Review, which includes a more detailed analysis.

Monster

Are you a fan of Monster Energy?

Caffeine Content: 160mg

Sugar Content: 55g

Another well-known energy drink is Monster and, it has successfully grown quite the cult-following.

Monster Energy has a little fruity taste to it which you’ll love, especially if you prefer tropical flavors in your energy drinks.

In terms of effectiveness, I find that Monster does a pretty good job for an energy drink. It supplied me with a great energy boost, as promised.

However, you may experience some sugar crash that’ll make you feel slow and lethargic due to its high sugar and caffeine content.

If you’re not too keen on all that added sugar and calories, its sugar-free version, Monster Zero Ultra, may be better for you.

That said, if you’re interested to know more about Monster, check out my article on Monster Energy Drink review for more information.

Relentless

Relentless Energy has been around since 2006

Caffeine Content: 160mg

Sugar Content: 24g

Relentless Energy Drink is an energy drink that’s manufactured in Ireland, this Coca Cola product offering a sparkling fruity flavour with a caffeinated twist to it.

Due to its high caffeine and sugar content, Relentless markets itself to provide strong spurge of energy. Although 160mg of caffeine and 24g of sugar is a little too much for my liking, I must say it has a great taste.

Relentless also has healthful ingredients such as taurine and B Vitamins that contribute to better exercise performance.

All in all, it’s a great energy drink if you prefer something that has a little more kick to it. But you should avoid Relentless Energy if you’re sensitive to caffeine or pregnant.

BOOST Energy

Caffeine Content: 150mg

Sugar Content: 24.5g

BOOST Energy has 150mg of caffeine and 24.5g of sugar, which is quite similar to Relentless. I think these powerful energy drinks are more suitable to be consumed once in a while and not every day.

In addition, this high-performance energy drink comes with 8 different flavours which include:

  • Sports range
  • Coffee range
  • Protein range

Rockstar Energy

Have you tried Rockstar Energy?

Caffeine Content: 160mg

Sugar Content: 24g

Rockstar Energy is a famous energy drink that’s aimed at those with an active and exhausting lifestyle. But as long as your body can handle a strong energy drink like this one, it’s definitely worth trying.

Despite it having a high caffeine amount of 160mg of caffeine, it sure does have a great taste which I enjoy. Plus, it offers up to 7 different flavours.

For me, Rockstar Energy delivers a long-lasting energy boost. The only downside is that it contains a lot of sugar. Should the brand decide on lowering its sugar content, I’m sure it’ll really win me over.

But can you drink Rockstar Energy every day? Check out this article here where I’ve written about the subject in more detail.

Lucozade Energy

A picture of Lucozade Energy
Lucozade Energy was initially labelled as a soft drink

Caffeine Content: 36mg

Sugar Content: 34.6g

Another well-known energy drink brand in Ireland is Lucozade Energy, and each 380ml bottle contains 36mg of caffeine. I think that’s a reasonable amount for an energy drink its size.

Lucozade also has 34.6g of sugar, which help boost your mental performance, and since our brain needs glucose to function properly, the sugar gives out extra brainpower.

But once the energy boost dries out, you’ll likely experience a nasty sugar crash due to its high sugar content.

Lucozade makes a great energy drink to have on a casual basis, but I think it won’t benefit you much as a perk-me-up or a pre-workout beverage.

That said, the brand does offer a sports range called Lucozade Sports, which may complement your sports or workout performance better.

For a more detailed look into Lucozade Energy Drink, check out the Lucozade Energy Drink Review I’ve written previously.

Zipfizz

Zipfizz is a powdered energy drink

Caffeine Content: 100mg

Sugar Content: 0g

Going into the powdered energy drinks department, we have Zipfizz energy that comes in a tube. You’ll need to mix each serving with 250ml of water before drinking it.

Zipfizz is an effective energy drink that comes with a moderate amount of 100mg of caffeine. Plus, it’s sugar-free and doesn’t contain many calories.

Not to mention, you’ll get increased energy levels and performance with the help of its healthful ingredients such as grape seed extract, potassium and chromium.

If you’re interested to buy Zipfizz Energy, there’s plenty of amazing deals for them on Amazon and eBay.

REIZE (10 out of 10)

The other energy drink brands may be great, but I think REIZE Energy is the best energy drink you can get in Ireland.
