Best Energy Drink for Tiredness (bye-bye fatigue)

I don’t know about you, but when you’re up working till 4am, you can get pretty TIRED.

Sometimes, there’s no helping the tiredness. Whether it’s an emergency, taking care of children or just working, being tired is just part of what makes us human.

As such, when you’re tired, there’s nothing better than a good energy drink to boost your spirits and keep you going.

Let’s dive in and take a closer look at the best energy drink for tiredness.

Why do I feel more fatigued after drinking energy drinks?

Energy drinks are great for an initial boost of energy. But after the boost of energy, you’re more likely to face more fatigue than before you started.

This usually happens when you’re unable to control yourself from drinking more energy drinks than you really need.

Oftentimes, because the sugar and caffeine that gives you a good amount of boost, we become addicted to the energy drink and it starts to influence us to want to drink more.

This may lead to you losing control or may lead to health problems and further chronic fatigue.

You may also become accustomed to energy drinks over time and the caffeine and other ingredients in them may not affect you as much as you get used to having them.

There are some common ingredients of energy drinks that when consumed in excess may lead to a lot of fatigue.

Some common ingredients are:

Sugar

Lots of energy drinks contain sugar. Sugar reduces orexin which causes you to feel sleepy and fatigued.

After consuming sugar, you are very likely to experience a sugar crash and wind up more tired than before.

If you keep trying to suppress our orexin by drinking more sugar and energy drinks, this may eventually lead to chronic fatigue.

Fortunately, not all energy drinks are loaded with sugar. There are plenty of sugar-free options available if you would prefer to avoid the sugar.

However, if you do insist on having your sugar, I would recommend following the AHA‘s guidance for how much sugar to have.

That way you can still have your sugar, but not go overboard to the point where you experience chronic fatigue.

Caffeine

Caffeine is often credited as the stimulant of energy drinks. Much like what it does in coffee, caffeine helps you stimulate the brain and helps you keep alert.

However, an addiction to caffeine can become a real problem that you should watch out for. When you drink too much caffeine, you build up a tolerance to it.

And when you build a tolerance, you’ll be drinking more and more because you want to get that same “kick” from the caffeine.

Caffeine works best when you control your consumption.

That means drinking a certain amount once in a while when you need it and only when you need it.

In the same way, you don’t drink energy drinks every day just because, you drink them when you feel that you are really in need of some extra energy.

After all, energy drinks are functional beverages – you drink them for a reason.

In fact, even when drinking any caffeinated drink, it’s important to control how much you drink.

I’d recommend between 50mg to 100mg per serve. I consider that to be the ideal amount where you get a nice boost, but it’s not overpowering.

However, the FDA does say that you can have up to 400mg of caffeine each day.

If you stick to that, I’m positive that you’ll always be feeling good effects when you drink an energy drink.

What ingredient in energy drinks help with tiredness?

Caffeine is the most important ingredient in energy drinks to overcome feeling tired. However, other ingredients can also affect the boost that you feel.

It’s not all about the caffeine.

Caffeine is great for keeping you alert and giving you that great-pick-me up when you need it.

It’s also the reason why caffeine is found in your daily coffee, it’s great for waking you up in the morning.

Although I drink both energy drinks and coffee, I prefer energy drinks, mainly for their delicious taste and how refreshing they feel when you’re drinking them. It seems so much more refreshing than coffee, even though they both give you a nice boost.

Other ways of boosting energy when you are tired

Besides energy drinks, which are very effective for a quick and fast pick-me-up. There are other ways you can reduce tiredness naturally.

These work long term and are healthy ways to increase your energy naturally, so I would suggest giving them a try.

Sleep More

Sleeping is so important that if we don’t sleep it can cause a number of bad things to happen.

Sometimes when you have an irregular sleep schedule, it can cause you to be tired and constantly feel sleepy.

If you are experiencing constant tiredness, it helps to increase the amount you sleep each night.

You may also be suffering from insomnia and be unable to sleep due to stress and over-thinking.

In which case I would suggest meditating and going to sleep earlier so your mind has the time it needs to relax.

pro tip: switch off all electronic devices an hour before bed to speed up the time required to fall asleep.

Eat a Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is important to keep the tiredness away.

If you are feeling tired or sluggish, it might be worth taking a look at your diet and seeing what you can change for the better.

If you always skip meals, you might find yourself feeling more tired because you are missing the vital nutrients your body needs.

A good and balanced diet contains foods that can keep your energy up as well as keep you feeling great throughout the day.

Also, try to eat some healthy snacks such as fruit if you’re feeling hungry instead of turning to junk and processed food.

You’ll be surprised how much of a difference a healthy diet can make for your energy levels.

What to look for in an energy drink?

There are three things to look for when choosing an energy drink for overcoming tiredness.

  • Caffeine content
  • Sugar content
  • Price

Caffeine

As mentioned above, too much caffeine can cause a lot of health problems.

If you don’t overdo it, caffeine can be great for keeping you alert and focused.

I like my caffeinated drinks to contain between 50mg and 100mg of caffeine, but that’s what I’ve found works best for me.

Keep in mind the FDA guidelines to not consume any more than 400mg per day and figure out what works for you.

Sugar

With sugar, it’s best to either try a sugar-free energy drink or an energy drink with less sugar.

Also mentioned above, sugar can have really bad side-effects for your body regardless of whether it’s in an energy drink, a soda, coffee or anything that you eat.

Sugar is just bad for you.

For something with less sugar, I would suggest trying either of the powdered energy drinks, Advocare Spark or REIZE.

Price

Energy drinks can go for really high prices and if you buy them regularly that money you’re spending can really add up.

Not to mention that when you buy them online the prices often don’t include shipping, which is a headache in and of itself.

You don’t need any more stress to add to your tiredness, why are good deals so difficult to come across?

The good news is that there are actually some really good deals out there if you know where to look to find them.

Paying less than $4 or even less than $2 for your energy drink doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting something that’s not high quality.

Again, you have to know where to look.

In no particular order, here are some good energy drinks to check out to combat tiredness.

Bing

Bing has less sugar than most brands and 120mg of caffeine, which is a touch high for me, but not too crazy.
