Whether you’re an everyday jogger or a once-in-a-week jogger, it’s good to keep fit and your heart healthy (plus all the bonus weight lost).
Some have a diet regimen in place when they jog, others just go and jog.
Maybe you’ve been contemplating if energy drinks can fit in with your jogging routine, well yes, not only does it fit in, it can be outstandingly beneficial for you.
Energy drinks and jogging
Caffeine doesn’t only keep you awake and stimulates your brain function, it can also greatly benefit your physical performance.
Which is why energy drinks can help you jog better, you’ll feel energized and would have the stamina to complete your goal.
This however doesn’t mean that you should load up on caffeine before a jog, continue to read on as I’ll be discussing more on caffeine and jogging.
Sugar is also a main component of energy drinks, which provides the energy we get.
It’s also good for you in the long run, literally. Athletes that consume sugar can improve their performance and recovery.
Despite you’ll be jogging, assuming leading a healthier lifestyle, it doesn’t mean you’re immune against the dangers of sugar. You’re still at risk of obesity and heart diseases among others.
Energy drinks also contains other ingredients including B vitamins, taurine and BCAAs. The amount is depended on the manufacturer and which extra ingredients do they want to include.
Taurine actually helps with physical performances and is commonly found in many energy drinks.
BCAAs however is uncommon and catered towards muscle-building individuals as it helps with muscle soreness and fatigue.
Those are some extra ingredients you might want to be on the look out for when choosing an energy drink for your jog.
Energy drinks are basically made of the same ingredients, therefore the pricing should be about the same.
So why pay more just for the brand and their marketing ploy?
As long as the particular energy drink has the caffeine and sugar content to my liking and is affordable, that’s my go-to choice.
Is caffeine beneficial for a jog?
Yes, caffeine is beneficial for a jog.
Caffeine can increase the concentration of endorphins in your brain which can produce a thing called “runner’s high” which could potentially be beneficial for your jog.
Therefore, it’ll be good to drink a cup of coffee or a can of energy drink before you go for your jog.
But do be mindful of your caffeine intake. Consuming caffeine can raise your heart rate, which shouldn’t affect a healthy adult but if you have medical conditions, it could potentially be dangerous.
It’s also wise to not consume a huge dosage of caffeine, just because of the side effects that you might experience which includes jitters, palpitations and headaches.
A healthy adult is recommended 400mg of caffeine daily, if you’re dependent on caffeine for everything, then you’ll need to plan out your daily caffeine intake well, in order to not overdose.
One tip would be to not consume too much caffeine in one setting, if you’re going to choose an energy drink, maybe opt for those with less than 100mg of caffeine.
Is sugar beneficial for a jog?
Sugar actually fuels our jog, by giving us the energy to run and also improving our performance.
However, unhealthy sugary items like cookies and cakes can negatively affect our jog.
Sugar generally is unhealthy, so I don’t see the reason to consume additional sugar be it for a jog or not.
Can energy drinks help me jog better?
Yes, energy drinks can help you jog better.
The caffeine in energy drinks, helps with your mental alertness, improves your mood and boosts your desire to jog better.
This is good news especially is you’re jogging after work, where you’ll most probably be feeling tired, energy drinks can lift that and enable you to enjoy your jog.
You can also consume energy drinks after your jog to increase your energy levels, as you go about your day.

In fact, Olympic athletes do take caffeine to naturally enhance their performance as it’s a legal performing enhancing product.
Of course, a jog isn’t an Olympic sports event, but you get the gist that if athletes rely on caffeine, energy drinks can definitely be beneficial for your own athletic performance too.
Do energy drinks build up running stamina?
Yes, energy drinks can build up stamina for your jog.
This is primarily due to the caffeine content that has been proven beneficial for physical activities including your stamina when you go for a jog.

Can I drink Red Bull for a jog?
Yes, you can drink Red Bull energy drink for a jog.
A research was conducted and Red Bull energy drink is proven to improve running performance by reducing the time taken for the participants to complete a 5km run.
Red Bull has 80mg of caffeine, a moderate amount that I personally think is just nice to energize you before a jog.
However, it does contain 27g of sugar and 110 calories, and yes, despite you’ll be burning it off, why put it on in the first place?
I would prefer the sugar and calorie free version though, Red Bull Total Zero.
Is it OK to drink energy drinks for my daily jogs?
Yes, it’s okay to drink energy drinks for your daily jogs.
It’s however important to choose your energy drinks wisely, try opting for ones that have a moderate caffeine amount with little to none sugar and calories.

What should I drink for a jog?
Grabbing an energy drink 45 minutes before a jog is actually beneficial for you.
Allow your body to fully absorb the caffeine, so when you start jogging, you’ll reap the full benefit of it.
As energy drinks are not designed for hydrating, you might want to stay away from it while jogging.
Water is actually the best beverage to drink to rehydrate-on-the-go. It’s also easy to carry a lightweight water bottle as you jog.
You’ve lost a lot of body fluids due to sweat which means it’s best to rehydrate well after your jog.
I usually reach for water, but sports drink could also work for you as it contains electrolytes you’ll need.
Once you’re well rehydrated, you could also grab a sports drink, if you need some energy to go about afterwards.

Other than being sugar and calorie free, it also claims to contain BCAAs – something that you might be interested in.
I personally don’t favor such a high amount of caffeine before a run, but if your caffeine tolerance is higher, this might work well for you.

If Bang’s caffeine scared you away, come back! Rockstar Energy Drink has a lesser caffeine content of 160mg.
It does also contain 31g of sugar and 190 calories . OMG!
I know, you’ll probably burn it all off, but still, 31g of sugar is just too unhealthy to begin with.

Advocare Spark Energy Drink has 120mg of caffeine, a moderate amount I must say, with zero sugar and 15 calories.
I kinda like this one despite the unsavoury packaging, but let’s not penalize it for that.
It’s also a powdered form of energy drink, which is easy to carry around, especially if you are planning to consume your energy drink after your jog.
