If you’re a baseball star, energy drinks will drive your performance on the baseball field.

And, if you’re a die-hard fan cheering on your favorite team, energy drinks can keep you going for hours.

With the plethora of choices available, however, how would you know which one is best for you?

Caffeine content

Caffeine works best to reduce fatigue and drowsiness. It boosts an athlete’s performance, endurance and increases one’s muscular strength.

You can find different levels of caffeine in various beverages like energy drinks, sodas, and teas.

And from there, you can choose between the drinks for the most suitable caffeine intake.

Note, however, that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends up to only 400mg of caffeine a day for a healthy adult.

The average can of energy drink comes with about 100mg of caffeine.  

So, to prevent any caffeine-related complications, it would be wise to plan your daily diet and stick within the recommended limits.

My preferred caffeine fix in an energy drink is between 50 and 100mg per serving.

While caffeine is great for sports, the truth is it could increase your heart rate and may even stress out the heart.

Now, that’s not something you would want when you already have adrenaline pumping through your body from the rush of the game.

So, tread carefully when it comes to how much caffeine you should have before or during a baseball game.

Sugar content

You’ll see that some drinks are high in sugar, whereas others are sugar-free. In fact, some energy drinks have an average of 21g to 34g of sugar per oz.

And, yes, sugar makes you abuzz with the energy that you’ll be needing. But, when the effect wears off, you could face a sugar “crash”.

In the end, you might feel even more tired than you ever did before. But don’t worry, so long as you don’t binge too much on sugar and stick to the recommended amount, you should be fine.

In fact, according to the US dietary guidelines, people should limit their sugar consumption to less than 10% of their daily calorie intake.

A study on runners notes that there are significant improvements in their performances, thanks to the caffeine content in each drink.

It has been found that taurine increases speed and boosts 3K performance.

So, ballplayers can boost their athletic capacity on the field and score more for their team.

Did MLB players only drink Gatorade?

Here’s a fun fact. Gatorade was said to have caused quite a controversy back in 2008 among the MLB players.

Personally, I’m pretty sure this was just another moment of Gatorade being a brand police.

And, it’s still a mystery to date, if this absurd ‘policy’ actually worked in the company’s favor.
