Calories In AMP Energy Drink

A 16 fl. oz serving of AMP Energy drink gives you 220 calories, which in my opinion, is heavy and might destroy your diet plan, especially if you’re health-conscious.

For your reference, you only need around 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, depending on age, level of activity, overall health, and other factors.

Generally, the recommended daily calorie consumption is 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men to maintain a healthy weight.

If you’re on a diet, AMP is not a good idea as it might destroy your appetite and even increase your weight. It’s pretty similar to the calorie content of Monster at 210 calories. You’ll need to work your body out to burn the calories you get from AMP.

It’s also essential to remember that no energy drink can replace a regular, healthy meal. Even if AMP offers many calories, it still doesn’t provide enough nutrients for you to skip a meal.

If you’re curious about the calorie details, you can have a look at the article that I’ve worked on the best zero-calorie energy drinks. I listed alternatives that might catch your attention.

Caffeine In AMP Energy Drink

Coffee beans
Excessive caffeine will do more than just keep you awake.

A serving of AMP Energy drink gives you 142mg of caffeine.

I switch to energy drinks that only have 50mg to 100mg of caffeine. This means AMP Energy is unfortunately past my limit. Still, AMP is within the recommended limit for caffeine intake.

For your comparison, Rockstar and Monster both have 160mg of caffeine, so it means that AMP is on average when it comes to content. However, you still need to regulate your consumption to avoid overwhelming effects.

The FDA approves a daily limit of 400mg of caffeine for healthy individuals. Any more than that might lead to side effects such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Addiction and Dependency
  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration
  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness
  • Headaches
  • Stomachaches

As long as you don’t go over the charts, you can easily manage your caffeine intake.

Sugar In AMP Energy Drink

A spoonful of sugar.
Sugar is never good in excess.

For every 16 fl. oz can of AMP Energy, you will get 58g of sugar.

58g of sugar is definitely too much! Mind you, it’s good for 2 servings!

It goes beyond what you normally get from drinking energy drinks. And, I am not also a fan of sugary drinks because I always go for sugar-free drinks as I believe it’s healthier and more manageable.

The AHA recommends a daily sugar limit of no more than 25g for women and 36g for men. Consuming too much sugar can lead to alarming and disastrous consequences like:

  • Acne
  • Obesity
  • Weight Gain
  • Type II Diabetes
  • Sugar crashes
  • Increased risk of heart disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Kidney damage
  • Increased risk of depression

You can avoid these side effects by limiting your AMP Energy consumption. I strongly suggest spacing out your consumption and not having AMP Energy as a regular energy drink.

Other Ingredients In AMP

Citric Acid

Citric acid is naturally found in fruits, like limes and lemons. It’s commonly used as a food additive, nutritional supplement, and cleaning agent.

Citric acid is highly beneficial, and it metabolizes energy. It helps you transform the food that you take into energy. It also enhances your body’s absorption of energy.

Concentrated Orange Juice

Concentrated orange juice gives you a sour concoction. Though it may not sound like a treat, it’s healthy and beneficial to your overall health.

Given that AMP Energy is packed with sugar, concentrated orange juice is mostly used for flavoring and balancing the pH value.

Guarana Seed Extract

Guarana seed originates in Brazil, and it comes with benefits that serve both as antioxidants and body stimulants. The guarana seed extract was popularly known for managing body fatigue and improving concentration and focus.

That being said, a large portion of guarana is powered by caffeine. This means the actual caffeine content of AMP may be more than what’s stated on the label.

Gum Arabic

Gum Arabic is primarily sourced from the acacia tree. It serves as a dietary fiber used to stabilize the drink, making you feel fuller and minimizing your calorie consumption.

While I can’t be too sure about the specific amount of Gum Arabic present in AMP Energy, it is hard to tell the benefits that you can get through this drink.

Taurine

Taurine is an amino acid that is a common ingredient in energy drinks.

Although it’s been greatly connected with Red Bull, taurine provides you with a host of benefits. It helps your body handle nerve growth and lower blood pressure, to mention a few.

Panax Ginseng Root Extract

Panax Ginseng is a traditional medicine that is now widely used in energy drinks.

Panax Ginseng helps you manage your cognitive ability and increase your energy. It also comes with anti-inflammatory effects and assists you in lowering your blood sugar level.

Does AMP Use Artificial Sugars?

AMP Energy uses the artificial sweetener high fructose corn syrup.

This makes AMP Energy sweeter and a lot more dangerous, sugar-wise. Consuming too much HFCS can cause the following:

  • fatty liver disease
  • unnatural amount of fructose in the body
  • obesity and weight gain
  • diabetes

With the excessive amount of sugar in AMP Energy, I think HFCS as an additional additive is too much to handle. That said, you should only drink AMP Energy when you really need it!

Check this video out to learn more about HFCS.

B-Vitamins in AMP Energy Drink

Here are the B vitamins found in AMP Energy:

B vitaminsFunctions
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)manages metabolism
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)convert food into energy
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)convert food into energy

Is AMP Energy Healthy?

In my opinion, AMP Energy is not a healthy drink.

The sugar in AMP Energy is too high and it uses HFCS which is associated with side effects. You can still enjoy AMP Energy in moderation. Having a can once in a while is not bad at all.
