What is Amino Energy drink?
Essential Amin.O. Energy + Electrolytes Sparkling Hydration Drink (or, in short, Amino Energy Drink) is a trendsetter in the energy drink industry.
This versatile 3-in-1 drink functions as a nutrition supplement, a recovery drink and a refreshing beverage and seeks to be the ideal companion for your active lifestyle.
As great as this drink may be, you may still have concerns about how advisable it is to consume it every day. In particular, you might be wondering about the implications it could have on your health.
Well, fret no longer. I’ve put this post together to help you make sense of what Amino Energy is really all about, and how it can possibly benefit you so you can decide if you should be drinking it every day or not.

Amino Energy Drink Ingredients
There’s no better way to assess the effectiveness of an energy drink than by taking a good look at its ingredients. It is also a good way to see what the drink can do for your body.
Here’s what you’ll see printed on a 12 fl.oz can of Essential Amino Energy + Electrolytes Sparkling drink:
- 5 calories
- 100mg caffeine (a decent amount, without being too overpowering)
- 5g amino acids (this is the Amino Blend; more details on this later)
- 0g total fat
- 0g saturated fatty acids
- 1g total carbohydrate
- 0g total sugar
- 0g protein
- 100mg salt (Electrolytes)
The drink is also not a significant source of saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, dietary fiber, added sugars, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and potassium.
Amino Energy also contains other ingredients such as:
- Carbonated water
- Natural flavors
- Artificial flavors
- Citric acid
- Malic acid
- Sodium citrate
- Potassium sorbate (Preservative)
- Potassium benzoate (Preservative)
- Sucralose (Artificial sweetener)
- Potassium chloride
- Magnesium phosphate
- Tartaric acid (Only used in grape and strawberry flavors)
- Acesulfame potassium (Sweetener for grape flavor only)
Let’s take a closer look at some of the main ingredients from the above list.
Amino Energy drink contains 100mg of caffeine per serving.
An average cup of coffee has 95mg of caffeine. So, in comparison, this is a decent serving of caffeine.
In fact, I generally prefer to have between 50mg to 100mg of caffeine per serving in my energy drinks.
Even if you consume up to 4 cans, you would still be within safe limits based on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s daily recommended intake for caffeine which is a maximum of 400mg per day.
However, I don’t recommend that you go as far as drinking four cans of Amino Energy in a day since you’ll probably already be consuming caffeine from other food sources throughout the day too. This includes things like tea, coffee, chocolate, breath fresheners and lots more.
One good thing about Amino Energy is that it gets its caffeine from natural sources like coffee beans and/or tea leaves rather than producing it synthetically.
Even with its moderate caffeine content, you should be mindful of not taking too much of Amino Energy in the same way that you would limit your coffee and tea drinking habits in order to safeguard your health.
There’s no question that Amino Blend is a big part of Amino Energy drink.
Amino Blend is a proprietary combination of essential amino acids that is included in the Amino Energy drink. The official purpose for including this blend as part of the energy drink is to support the protein-building process of your muscles.
The unofficial reason for including it is marketing spin. Well, that’s why these “proprietary blends” are in any energy drink in my opinion.
Here’s the list of the eight essential amino acids that form the Amino Blend:
- Sustamine L-Alanyl
- Micronized Taurine
- L-Lysine Hydrochloride
Your body is not capable of making its own BCAAs, so it needs to get them from the food you eat.
To give you an idea of how important BCAAs are, check out this list of things that it helps your body to accomplish:
- Increase muscle growth
- Reduce muscle soreness
- Decrease exercise fatigue
- Prevent muscle wasting
- Treat liver disease
While BCAAs do play an important role, consuming excessive amounts of BCAAs can also trigger side effects such as nausea, pain, and headaches.

Please also take note that BCAAs are not suitable for everyone.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you’ll need to avoid it altogether. And if you’re currently taking any medication, it would be wise to seek the advice of your doctor first before you start drinking Amino Energy.
Something that I wasn’t so happy about here is that the drink manufacturer, Optimum Nutrition (ON) didn’t provide further details about the composition of the amino acids that make up the Amino Blend. All that we’re told in the ingredients list is that there’s 5g of amino acids.
So we don’t really know how much of L-Leucine we are getting whenever we consume the Amino Energy drink, for example.
But anyway, the overall quantity of amino acids in this blend doesn’t amount to very much, so it shouldn’t really become a health hazard unless you drink a large volume of Amino Energy. Just one to two cans at a time really shouldn’t be an issue.
Not every energy drink comes with electrolytes so it’s great that ON has decided to include some in the Amino Energy drink.
Every serving of Amino Energy offers you 100mg of salt that consists of unspecified ratios of sodium citrate, potassium chloride and magnesium phosphate.
The presence of these electrolytes in Amino Energy make it an ideal drink for intense workout sessions, sports training, or any other fitness regimes that you do.
Electrolytes help to support the following biological processes and body systems:
- Nervous system
- Muscle function
- Hydration of the body
- Maintenance of internal pH levels
Consuming these electrolytes as part of your fitness diet will certainly help you in terms of your endurance and stamina in carrying out physical exercises.
Dehydration is one of the major causes of electrolyte imbalance. Other medical conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea, overheating, and sweating excessively will cause your body lose fluids. When these circumstances occur, it can adversely affect your wellbeing.
You should immediately see a health professional if you encounter symptoms like these, especially after a period of physical activity:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Numbness and tingling
- Muscle weakness and cramping
It’s really crucial that your body stays hydrated at all times and drinks like Amino Energy can really help you in this area. Besides being an energy booster, you’ll get to replenish your body’s supply of electrolytes at the same time too.

Does Amino Energy Drink Work?
Based on my own experience trying Amino Energy, I personally think that the drink is pretty good.
The best part is that you won’t experience any sugar crashes after drinking Amino Energy since the beverage is completely sugar-free.
Although there’s 100mg of caffeine in the drink, I didn’t feel that it was stimulating enough for me.
I’m guessing the reason this is so is partly because there’s a lack of other energy-boosting ingredients in Amino Energy. Ingredients like ginseng, guarana extract and B vitamins were nowhere to be found.
Well, yes, there is some micronized taurine in there, but I didn’t feel that it made enough of a difference to me. And as for the Amino Blend consisting of 5g of amino acids, I really couldn’t tell if it helped me in any way.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy the drink and I would still consider drinking it again, though I wouldn’t make it a staple in my choice of energy drinks to drink on a daily basis.
Is It Safe To Drink Amino Energy Drink Everyday?
I personally think it’s safe to drink Amino Energy drink everyday, assuming you are healthy individual without any existing medical issues.
Amino Energy complements a low-calorie diet well, if you happen to be on such a diet. There’s only 5kcal per serving here and there’s no sugar in it at all.
Other ingredients in the drink don’t strike me as being bad to your health in any way either.
So go right ahead and have some Amino Energy every day if that’s something that you’d like to do. However, always remember to drink Amino Energy in moderation.
